Rocket League launches for Xbox One with Halo, Gears goodies

Psyonix’s popular driving-soccer hybrid Rocket League has launched for Xbox One. The $19.99 action-heavy sports title is being released through ID@Xbox and was co-developed by Panic Button Games. The new version features several extras, including two system-exclusive battle-cars—the Halo ‘HogSticker’ and the Gears of War ‘Armadillo’—and Garage items based on Halo, Gears of War, and Sunset Overdrive. The package is also bundled with three previously released download packs: Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, and Chaos Run. A full run down of everything added is listed below.

Activision Blizzard acquires Major League Gaming

Activision Blizzard is expanding their eSport footprint with the acquisition of Major League Gaming. MLG is over 12 years old with over nine million registered users, and hosts more than 180 players throughout its operated events. The league’s live-streaming capabilities will be used to augment Activision Blizzard’s Media Networks division. According to the announcement, MLG will still run MLG.tv, MLG Pro Circuit, and GameBattles, as well as continue working with its current partners and other publishers.

Microsoft has reached into their vaults for the latest trailer for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. Fans of the original might recall a memorable TV spot featuring the song Mad World, and in a fitting nod to the 2006 version, Mad World returns for Ultimate Edition’s launch trailer. And as a reminder, all save files, add-ons, and achievements will carry over to Ultimate Edition, which will also support several Xbox One features, including screenshots, Snap, and DVR.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will unlock all four Xbox 360 titles

Everyone who buys Gears of War: Ultimate Edition or the Xbox One bundle will be able to unlock the entire series. Xbox 360 backwards compatibility, announced during E3, will allow gamers who pick up Ultimate Edition between August 25 and December 31 to play the entire run on their Xbox One: Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War: Judgment. Of course, current owners will be able to play them using their own copies, once backwards compatibility goes live for all this fall. All save files, add-ons, and achievements will carry over, and they will also support Xbox One features, such as screenshots, Snap, and DVR. Xbox One gamers in the preview program can play the first Gears of War today.

The third behind-the-scenes video for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has gone live. The first two showcased the new opening cinematic and Coalition’s efforts to get the game running at 60 fps in 1080p. The latest video runs over three minutes and covers, oddly enough, cover, and the team’s methods of retaining the feeling of the original while updating the mechanics for a new generation.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition goes gold, new intro, doc videos out

Microsoft has sent word that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has gone gold and is now available for digital pre-download. The game is available in two flavors, the $39.99 Standard Edition and the $59.99 Deluxe Edition, each of which comes with pre-order bonuses for early buyers. The former includes multiplayer skins for Adam Fenix and Civilian Anya, as well as the Animated Imulsion Weapon Skin, while the latter adds 10 animated weapon skins, 36 standard weapon skins, and Civilian Marcus Fenix and Aaron Griffin in multiplayer. Coalition also released two new videos to offer a better look at the revamped visuals and design process. Both the new opening cinema and behind-the-scenes look are viewable below.

Microsoft revealed a new Xbox One Gears of War bundle during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle, currently up for pre-order, will be available on August 25 for $349. The set will include a 500GB console, a wireless controller with a 3.5mm headset jack, a download code for a copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, the Superstar Cole multiplayer skin, and early access to the 2016 Gears of War 4 Multiplayer Beta.

E3 2015: Microsoft – Backwards compatibility, HoloLens, Gears 4

Microsoft had a lot to show this year, including an on-stage demonstration of HoloLens, details about the upcoming elite controller, gameplay footage from Gears of War 4, and the debut of the Steam Early Access-like program Xbox Game Preview. There was also the biggest surprise of the event, the reveal that backwards compatibility is coming to the Xbox One. The latter is opening the system up to not only a massive back catalog of titles but also some nice bonuses, such as a free copy of Fallout 3 with Fallout 4 and free copies of Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 with Rainbow Six Siege.

A free DLC pack, sponsored by Maxim, has launched for Gears of War: Judgment. The limited-time giveaway download includes the return of Execution Mode and a new multiplayer map, Haven. Special playlists for both have also been made available, offering 200% XP boosts for regular players and 300% XP boosts for VIP pass holders.
