Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: Gaslamp Games
Gaslamp Games will be releasing their PC strategy game Clockwork Empires on October 26. Described as an “eldritch steampunk colony-building simulator,” players must build and manage a colony as a Junior Bureaucrat. The outpost will be set within procedurally generated lands, and play host to unique citizens who work towards their own goals. They will have to be vigilant managers, as in addition to growing and harvest resources, they must also be prepared for surprise inspections by Occult Investigators and unhappy colonists coming under the sway of evil forces.
Colonial overlords Gaslamp Games has decided to send their steampunk-flavored survival-management sim Clockwork Empires to the wilds of the Internet, also known as Steam Early Access. The latest version will go live on August 15 for $29.99. In an alternate, dystopian past, players will serve as a Junior Bureaucrat of the Empire and lead a band of colonists as they attempt to survive against Cthulhu-esque cosmic horrors, murderers, and their own ambitions. Each colonist will have their own personality traits that might see them become a proper citizen of the Empire or turn against their neighbors in service to their own avarice (damnable mumpers and bludgers!). Players can attempt to follow assignments issued by the Empire or strike out on their own with a faction of their choosing.
Dungeons of Dredmor developer Gaslamp Games has announced their next title, Clockwork Empires. Set for a spring 2014 release, the Linux, Mac, and Windows PC colony builder/management sim follows a Colonial Grade civil servant of the Empire sent to spread its reach and fortune in a new world. Players will have access to steam-powered machines, settlers with their own skills and ambitions, and the ability to go online and share powerful tech with other Imperial pioneers. Beware: progress too far and “Unthinkable Horrors” will arise to attack the colony (see: Cthulhu).
