MechWarrior Online’s Closed Beta, Operation Inception detailed
MechWarrior Online will be entering closed beta this week, allowing fans the chance to try the game ahead of its summer launch and help work out the kinks. But for those who don’t want to take the risk of not being able to get their feet wet before release, Piranha has announced Operation Inception. Mech-heads can register at the official site for a chance to receive a key for the upcoming beta, but for guaranteed access, they can take advantage of the founder’s program that is set to launch on June 19.

CCP Games opens beta registration for Dust 514
CCP Games’ online first-person shooter cousin to Eve Online, Dust 514, is nearing beta. The PS3 exclusive, set to launch later this year, ties into the Eve universe by allowing console players to interact with PC gamers as the former pound the ground and the latter cruise the stars. Piranha reveals MechWarrior Online’s Mech Labs, Dragon Mech
Piranha Games has released some shots from the Mech Lab, the customization area from their upcoming mechbonanza (mechnanza?) MechWarrior Online. The Lab is where players will buy and build their ‘bots, tweaking their loadouts for the optimal combination of arms and style. Also included were some new in-game shots, a few of which feature the new 60-ton Dragon Mech.

Wolfenstein 3D turns 20, id celebrates with free iOS, web versions
Wolfenstein 3D has turned 20! And I feel old! To properly celebrate the venerable series’ birthday, Bethesda and id have launched a new version of the original as a free-to-play browser-based game. Gamers can head to wolfenstein.bethsoft.com or Facebook.com – Wolfenstein and give Hitler an updated what for. But wait – that’s not all! Later today, Bethesda will also be offering Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum for free (for a limited time) for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch on the App Store.

CCP keynote, new Dust 514 screens and video from Eve FanFast
Eve Online developer CCP released some new images from their upcoming free-to-play PS3 first-person shooter MMO, Dust 514. The pictures come from last month’s Eve FanFast, showing off some of the unit and vehicle types. Dust 514 will be set in and share the Eve universe, allowing players of the PC MMORPG to interact with those taking part in the PS3 MMOFPS.

Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances enters Open Beta
Phenomic’s upcoming free-to-play, browser-based MMO Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances has entered Open Beta. Players interested in throwing in their lot to be the ruler of all they survey can sign up at the official site. Virtual generals will “harvest valuable resources, foster strategic alliances and engage in relentless battles.” Tiberium Alliances features in-game news and status feeds, and will eventually offer cloud saves and cross-platform functionality across desktops, smartphones, and tablets.

Tribes: Ascend set to launch next month
Hi-Rez Studios has announced that their free-to-play sci-fi shooter Tribes: Ascend will be released on April 12. The follow-up to Dynamix and Sierra’s 2001 Tribes 2 is part of a thirteen-year-old franchise that seems to be going strong, judging by the 400,000-plus participants in the open beta. For gamers wanting to join in the pre-release action, all they have to do is sign up at the game’s official site. No key is required, and Hi-Rez announced that progress will carry over to the final version.

CCP’s MMO shooter Dust 514 will be free-to-play, PS3 exclusive
Eve Online developer CCP Games has announced that their upcoming online first-person shooter Dust 514 will be a free-to-play PlayStation 3 exclusive. Dust is set in and shares the Eve universe, allowing players to wage war in team-based combat on thousands of different planets. Combat will also be coordinate with Eve pilots as factions defend and expand their empires. The first hands-on demonstration will take place at CCP’s Eve Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland (March 22-24). All attendees will receive invitations to the closed private trial, which will kick off in December and “be organically expanding throughout the beta period,” with the final launch scheduled for later this year.
