Halo 5: Guardians’ first free content update, Battle of Shadow and Light, is now available for download. The update adds 48 new REQs that feature a new assassin animation, skins, weapons, vehicles, and armor sets (Shinobi and Tracer). The 8v8 mode Big Team Battle has also been added along with four new Big Team Battle maps: Basin, Deadlock, Guillotine, and Recurve. 343 Industries has noted that, while the Big Team Battle playlist is good to go, the new REQs could take up to 24 hours to work their way into the system. The studio also released additional notes about the update on Halo Waypoint.

343 Industries has announced that they will soon be rolling out the first free content update for Halo 5: Guardians. Scheduled to launch later this month, Battle of Shadow and Light will add 48 new REQs, a new assassin animation, and Big Team Battle maps. The new REQs include the ninja-themed Shinobi armor, the legendary Dying Star Light Rifle, Tundra- and Woodland-themed skins, and the Tracer armor set. The new 8v8 Big Team Battle playlist will go live next week with four maps that have been revamped to offer greater mobility: Deadlock, Basin, Guillotine, and Recurve.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III now available for console, PC

Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III has launched online and in stores. Set 50 years into the future, soldiers are heavily altered by bio-technology and cybernetic enhancements, allowing them to utilize the entry’s signature addition, a new momentum-based movement system. The campaign, as with all modes, is playable online, and up to four players will be able to go through the story together. Multiplayer also features a Specialist system, with players choosing from nine different soldiers who have their own set of unique customization unlocks. Weapon customization has also been given a bump via Gunsmith, allowing for custom paint jobs access to a more advanced emblem editor. eSport features have been implemented, such as Theater, as has a new loot system, the Black Market. Lastly, Zombies returns with Shadows of Evil, a new campaign featuring four strangers making their way through a noir-film-inspired world, and Zombies also return in the main campaign once players finish the game.

Rainbow Six Siege’s post-launch update, content plans announced

Ubisoft has outlined their post-launch content plans for Rainbow Six Siege. In addition to regular balancing and tweaks, the development will be holding events and competitions. Four free content expansions are also in the works, with the seasonal releases each including a map, two operators, primary and secondary weapons, and a gadget. The new operators, along with tiered weapon skins, will have to be unlocked with real money via R6 Credits ($4.99 for 600) or with Renown earned during play; pretty much everything earns the player Renown, from accomplishing Daily Challenges to watching tutorials, though team killing will remove some. It will take 600 R6 Credits or 25,000 Renown to unlock operators, which equates to approximately 25 hours of gameplay. New game modes will also be added during the year.

Halo 5: Guardians launch sets series, system, and streaming records

A week after its launch, Microsoft has announced that Halo 5: Guardians is “the biggest Halo launch,” taking in more than $400 million in global sales. Guardians is also the fastest-selling system exclusive to date, as well as the most played title on Xbox Live for the week, totaling nine million hours played in nearly seven million matches. Throughout the matches, players got their hands on over 45 million REQ Packs consisting of over 568 million cards. Lastly, Guinness World Records has given the title as the most-watched video game launch broadcast, with over 330,000 unique streams generating over 5.5 million views for the week. Many of the launch events have been archived and uploaded to Xbox.com.

Over the weekend, Activision released a new live-action trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Seize Glory features Michael B. Jordan introducing and Marshawn Lynch awing at Kevin, the everyday player who is utilizing some of the new maneuvers and skills to navigate around and take down zombies and mechs. The trailer was directed by Wayne McClammy.

Treyarch has released a new trailer for the Nuk3town Bonus Map for Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The Black Ops map returns redesigned for 2065, with structures laid out to support the new momentum-based, chained-movement system. Nuk3town is a pre-order bonus for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions.

Rainbow Six Siege goes gold, Spetsnaz spotlighted in new video

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege has gone gold, according to an announcement from Ubisoft. The next entry in the Inside Rainbow video series was also rolled out. The latest highlights Russia’s Spetsnaz counterterrorism unit and its four in-game operators, Glaz, Tachanka, Kapkan and Fuze. A few items they bring to the table are Tachanka’s portable, mountable RP-46 machine gun, Glaz’s HDS Flip Sight for clearer distance shots, and Fuze’s mini-grenade-firing cluster charge.
