Destiny gets The Vault of Glass raid, more content coming next week

Bungie has introduced Destiny’s first raid, The Vault of Glass. The six-player end-game event adds a new location to the game for players level 26 and above. Combined Arms, a new versus multiplayer playlist, is going to follow up the raid later this week, setting teams against one another in two modes on vehicle maps. Next week will also mark the debut of the game’s first timed event, Queen’s Wrath. Players will be able to take on new Bounties, unlock mission modes, and acquire some Legendary and Rare rewards. Queen’s Wrath will run from September 23 to October 6.

Bungie issues deployment orders, Destiny to go on sale at midnight

After a massively successful pre-order program and beta run-up, Bungie’s eagerly awaited first-person shooter Destiny nears its global midnight launch. Their first title since leaving behind the Halo franchise with 343 Industries, Destiny features a single-player storyline intertwined with multiplayer instance combat, similar to Guild Wars 2 for PC, and an integrated versus mode. Players are able to create a character, customize their gear, and earn loot during their outings. In addition to the game, the Expansion Pass has also launched. The $34.99 pass includes access to two planned packs that will include new missions, co-op activities, multiplayer arenas, weapons, and gear. Each pack runs $19.99 if purchased separately, and the first is slated to go live in December.

Destiny gets the Google Maps treatment with Destiny Planet View

Activision has launched Destiny Planet View, a novel fusion of Google’s mapping technologies and tools with Destiny’s environments, lore, and mechanics. Viewers will be able to explore the playable areas of Mars, the Moon, and Venus using Google maps. Each location features navigable screens that not only offer a better view of the battlegrounds but also bits of background info, tips, and videos of the events displayed.

Lockout being reimagined for Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Microsoft has announced that Lockout will join Halo 2 multiplayer maps Ascension, Coagulation, Sanctuary, and Zanzibar in being reimagined for the upcoming compilation Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Max Hoberman, president of Certain Affinity and one of Halo 2’s lead designers, described some of the changes to the three-level map: “most prominent among these are a bit of cover added to the ‘Elbow,’ the long walkway connecting the grav lift to the sniper tower, and a dynamic element that should help counter an entrenched group of enemies.” Lockout will also be one of the levels playable at the Xbox Booth (#412, #422, #432) at PAX Prime. 343 Industries will be hosting a number of events at PAX, including a signing, a panel, and a weekend-long tournament, details of which can be found below. Metro Redux brings updated 2033, Last Light to console and PC

Metro returns today with the enhanced next-genified re-release Metro Redux. The $49.99 bundle includes Metro 2033, its sequel Metro: Last Light, and all DLC released for both titles for PS4 and Xbox One. Each is also available separately via download for $24.99. Both games have been enhanced with new animations, new voice overs, refined combat mechanics, and improved enemy AI. Ranger Mode is also available in both games as is the option to select two different play styles, the action-heavy Spartan mode and resource-restricted Survival mode.

Battle wages across Venus and Mars in new Destiny videos

A new gameplay trailer, titled Venus, has been released for Destiny. At around a minute and a half, the footage features a trio exploring and battling around the overgrown surface and underground compounds as well as through ruined cities. A similarly themed trailer for Mars has also been posted below, which follows another group making their way around the red planet. And in case you missed it, a multiplayer trailer was released last week.

Destiny gets new trailer, now GameStop’s most pre-ordered new IP

Bungie has announced that Destiny has broken GameStop’s record for the most pre-orders of a new property. This follows the previous update that over 4.5 million unique players took part in trying out the game during its recent open-beta phase. Coinciding with the news is the release of a new multiplayer trailer, which is also being used to celebrate the commencement of gamescom 2014 in Cologne, Germany.

Nemesis, the final download pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts, is now live for 360 and Xbox One. The $14.99 download includes four multiplayer maps as well as the final entry in the Extinction storyline, Exodus. The maps (Dynasty, Goldrush, Showtime, and Subzero), detailed below, range from small to medium in size and each include their own unique Field Orders. Exodus features different escape paths for a more dynamic last act, plus new weapons to craft and a new Ancestors enemy type.

Call of Duty: Ghosts to round out DLC run with Nemesis this August

Activision has announced the final download pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts, Nemesis. The drop will include four multiplayer maps as well as the final entry in the Extinction storyline, Exodus. The maps (Dynasty, Goldrush, Showtime, and Subzero) are each detailed below, but the batch ranges from small to medium in size and include their own unique Field Orders. Exodus opens up the Extinction mode some with different paths to take during the episode’s final escape, plus new weapons to craft and a new enemy type, the Ancestors.

Frontier’s Edge goes live for PC, Xbox One versions of Titanfall

Frontier’s Edge, the latest map pack for Titanfall, is now available for PC and Xbox One. The $9.99 download includes three new maps: Dig, Export, and Haven. Dig features a series of narrow paths, surrounded by steep rock walls, that connect a network of processing plants; Export is set on the side of a mountain and focuses on close combat; and Haven centers on a beach resort built on the edge of a large crater lake.
