Destiny 2 console open beta to kick off July 21, run through July 23

Console players will be able to play Destiny 2 in a few weeks during a three-day-long open beta. Scheduled to run from July 21 through July 23, the beta will feature the opening story mission, Homecoming, along with both co-op and versus modes. Pre-orders will be able to access the beta early, beginning July 18 for PS4 and July 19 for Xbox One.

Halo 5 to get 4K update, 360 series to be backwards compatible

Microsoft is set to kick off the Halo Summer Celebration. In the upcoming months, the studio is set to revisit several of the older titles in the line. First up is word that four titles will be added to Xbox One’s backwards compatibility library later this year: Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, and Halo: CE Anniversary. Each game will support the campaign, multiplayer, and LAN play on Xbox One and between One and 360. As a bonus, every 360 add-on map pack will be free in Xbox Store. Later this year, Halo 5: Guardians will receive an update to support 4K alongside the release of Xbox One X. Halo Wars 2 is also set to get a new premium expansion this fall, Awakening the Nightmare. The add-on will feature a campaign focusing on The Banished, along with the return of the Flood and a new multiplayer mode, Terminus Firefight. Lastly, 343 will also be in attendance at several upcoming events, including RTX Austin 2017, HCS Summer Finals at DreamHack Atlanta, ChinaJoy and gamescom.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Absolution launching July 6 for PS4

Infinity Ward is prepping to release Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s third downloadable pack, Absolution. As with prior drops, the add-on will introduce four new maps for multiplayer along with a new zombies storyline. The maps, detailed below, will feature golf courses, a frozen city, a shantytown within a wrecked ship, and a remake of Resistance from Modern Warfare 3. The zombies addition, Attack of the Radioactive Thing!, is set in a 1950s-era beach town after a government experiment has gone awry. Paul Reubens returns as director Willard Wyler who has once again trapped four characters within a film, now based around the famed Creature Features. The Scientist (Seth Green), the Rebel (Ike Barinholtz), the Soldier (Jay Pharoah), and the School Girl (Sasheer Zamata) are joined by narrator and horror icon Elvira as they utilize new traps, weapons, and powers against the undead hordes.

Psychological thriller Get Even out now for console, PC

Bandai Namco has released The Farm 51’s psychological thriller Get Even. The first-person shooter finds players waking up in an abandoned asylum as prisoner and mercenary Cole Black. As he struggles to remember his past, a mysterious figure known as Red forces him to relive his memories through the Pandora headset while sending him out to explore the facility.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered getting standalone release

Call of Duty fans will soon be able to buy a copy of Modern Warfare Remastered without grabbing Infinite Warfare. Activision has announced that they will be separating the two, with PS4 owners getting the title first, beginning on June 27 for $39.99. The release will include the campaign, updated with improved lighting, animation and textures, as well as 16 multiplayer maps. To celebrate the launch, a new event will be kicking off on the same day, Days of Summer, which will feature in-game giveaways, experience boosts, new playlists, and a summer-themed map.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles out for console, PC

The download-only Zombies compilation, Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles, has gone live. The release, which requires Black Ops III, includes eight maps from the various Treyarch-developed entries: World at War, Black Ops, and Black Ops II. All of the maps have been enhanced with “vibrant current-generation visuals, enhanced lighting, revamped character models and environments, and updated AI and audio systems.” Custom weapons are also available across all of the maps: Nacht der Untoten (Abandoned Bunker), Verruckt (Wittenau Sanitorium), and Shi No Numa (Jungle Swamp) from World at War; Kino Der Toten (Theater of the Dead), Ascension (Soviet Cosmodrome), Shangri-la (Exotic Jungle Shrine), and Moon (Lunar Base) from Black Ops; and Origins (WWI France) from Black Ops II.

E3 2017 – Bethesda: Wolfenstein II, Dishonored, Skyrim NS, VR

Bethesda had a strong showing with support for a number of their popular franchises. They also revealed an initiative that encompasses several of them, Creation Club. The system is for Fallout 4 and Skyrim and is set to offer curated, free mods for players and cash for creators. GTA Online gets into the illegal arm biz on June 13, trailer released

Rockstar is going to add the distribution and manufacture of weaponry into GTA Online with the Gunrunning add-on next week. To get players ready for June 13, a new trailer has been released to offer a better look at what’s being added, including weaponized vehicles, bunkers, and a a Mobile Operations Center. Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 update addresses player feedback, bugs

A new update has been released for the console and PC versions of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3. The patch is said to focus on stability and bug fixing, and incorporate player feedback for general improvements. Version-specific adjustments are also included. A handful of the major updates noted include “reduced loading times, fixed game freezes, fixed discovering new Points of Interest, fixed saving issues of completed Points of Interest, fixed an issue that could cause the save files to become corrupted, fixed crash during Party Crasher mission along with numerous other improvements and changes to the game.” A full list can be found here.
