Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII demo, pre-order bonus go live

Lightning returns today, literally. Square Enix has announced that the first playable demo for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will launch later today for PS3 and is available now for 360 Live Gold members. Live Silver members will have to wait until January 28. The demo features a battle-heavy trip through the Yusnaa palace alongside Snow. For players that activate the Outworld feature and submit their score for the final fight against Zaltys, the Siegfried outfit will be unlocked in the full version. As an extra bonus, the PSN version will include the Utsusemi Garb DLC in the demo and full version, which includes the Heavenly Fan weapon and the Kaminari shield.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster PS3 CE, PS Vita version detailed

Final Fantasy X, X-2 HD Remaster (PS3, PS Vita) LE Announcement - Set

Square Enix announced a Collector’s Edition release for their upcoming set Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. The PS3 will receive the CE along with the standard edition when it is released on March 18, but it will only be available through the Square Enix Online Store. The $79.99 package will include a 40-page hardcover artbook, five lithographs, and a soundtrack on Blu-ray with over six hours of music. Some new screens were released alongside shots of the CE.

New Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII making-of video released

Square Enix has released a new behind-the-scenes feature for Lighting Returns. The latest entry, titled “Inside the Square – The Making of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII”, was filmed at the studio’s headquarters in Tokyo and is narrated by Lightning’s voice across Ali Hillis. The video, clocking in at nearly six and a half minutes long, looks at the work of being done by character designer Tetsuya Nomura and the trials faced by the composers who were tasked with putting together the new score.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster launching next March for PS3

Square Enix has announced that the PS3 version of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be available on March 18. Coinciding with the announcement is news that the official box art and limited edition set have been redesigned, and both have been posted below. In addition to Final Fantasy X: Eternal Calm and Final Fantasy X-2: Last Mission being added to the package, which were previously only available in the International versions, a Concept Art Book will also be added to those who pre-order in time for the free bump from the standard version to the limited edition.

A dozen new screenshots have been posted from Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. The new images show some of the touched-up cutscenes as well as various stages of combat. Square Enix also confirmed that, in addition to X’s Sphere Grids, the Last Mission, additional dresspheres, and the Creator Creator will all be included in Remaster.

A new set of screenshots for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII shows more of the crew in action as well as more of the formerly chipper Oerba Dia Vanille. Vanille is a key figure in the upcoming spin-off, as her newfound ability to hear the voices of the dead is prized by the Order, who watches over her in Luxerion. In addition to the new images, Square Enix also revealed the Outerworld service, an online feature that will allow player to submit battle scores, messages, and snapshots to social media sites.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII trailer reveals a touch of FFX

Square Enix released a new video for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The latest footage showcases Lightning’s Spira’s Summoner gear, the same outfit worn by Final Fantasy X’s Yuna, one of the 80-plus different costumes planned for launch. This isn’t the first series-inspired costume, either: a special Cloud Strife outfit pack was announced earlier this summer as a pre-order bonus.

Square Enix resumes digital sales of Final Fantasy XIV

After halting digital sales of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn due to “unprecedented demand at launch,” Square Enix has announced that sales have now resumed. Since the suspension on August 28, the studio has increased the number of and “performed extensive maintenance” on the game servers. The improvements now allow for a greater number of players, as well as an increase in the maximum limit of users capable of playing at the same time per World.

Square Enix has released new details about character migration and an upcoming beta for the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The studio has plans to launch a beta for the next-gen version on February 22. Also, for those who are currently playing the PS3 version, a character-transfer program has been announced that will allow you to bring your character over to the PS4 version for free. Additional details about the program are not known, however, but will be released at a later date.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn goes live for PC and PS3

The Final Fantasy series is taking another stab at the MMO genre today with the release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Available for PC and PS3, A Realm Reborn allows players of both versions to venture together in a new storyline that takes place five years after the realm of Eorzea was laid waste by the Primal known as Bahamut. Players can now change their abilities, role, and skills using the Armory System, which allows for them to excel in multiple roles using only one character. Characters will switch to one of the 19 different classes by changing their equipped gear, and nine different jobs will unlock as they progress. Players can form Free Companies to go on story-driven quests, ride alongside their comrades into battle on a personal companion chocobo, and fight in open-world battles with other players.
