J-Stars Victory VS+ in stores for PS3, PS4, on PSN for PS Vita

Bandai Namco has announced the release of J-Stars Victory VS+. The Spike Chunsoft-developed brawler features 32 characters from across the Shonen Jump and V-Jump lines, including Bleach, Dragon Ball Z, Fist of the North Star, and Naruto. A Story mode, featuring levels from a variety of the included properties, is joined by a two-versus-two Online Battle mode and, exclusive to this version, a team-versus-team Arcade mode.

Street Fighter V adds Birdie and Cammy, PS4 beta to begin July 23

Capcom revealed two more additions to Street Fighter V’s roster: Birdie and Cammy. Cammy has been a staple of the series for several years now, but Birdie hasn’t been seen rushing around and headbutting since Street Fighter Alpha 3. The two join four previously announced fighters, Charlie Nash, Chun-Li, M. Bison, and Ryu. A new trailer and batch of screenshots were released showing the two in action. The beta was also dated, with PS4 pre-orders getting a chance to try the game online from July 23 to July 28.

Atlus adding $10,000 to Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Evo 2015 prize pool

Atlus is sweetening the Evo pot for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. The studio announced today that they are adding a $10,000 price pool for finals. For those looking to enter, Atlus noted that the competition will be using the current version of the PS3 console. Another Persona will also be at the tournament, the rhythm-based spin-off Persona 4: Dancing All Night, along with competitive Catherine and stations for practicing Ultimax.

Mortal Kombat X – Tanya Bundle launching tomorrow for console, PC

The Tanya Bundle is set to go live tomorrow for Mortal Kombat X. The $7.99 download not only adds the Edenian fugitive to the roster, last seen making a cameo in 2011’s Mortal Kombat, but also the Klassic Pack 1. The latter offers costumes from the original Mortal Kombat for Kano, Liu Kang, and Sonya. Players who prefer one or the other can download each separately on June 9, with Tanya priced at $4.99 and the Klassic Pack 1 at $3.99. Check out the bundle’s trailer below.

(Ch-ch-ch) Jason Bundle out May 5 for Mortal Kombat X Kombo Pack

The Jason Voorhees Bundle will launch for Mortal Kombat X tomorrow for Kombat Pack owners and on May 12 for everyone else. The $7.99 set includes two different download packs, Jason Vorhees character DLC ($4.99) and the Horror Pack ($3.99). The Horror Pack adds horror-themed skins for several characters, including Kraken Reptile, Pharaoh Ermac, and Vampiress Mileena. A new trailer shows the Friday the 13th star in action.

Mortal Kombat X launches for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, DLC in tow

NetherRealm returns to their roots today with the release of Mortal Kombat X for PS4, PC, and Xbox One. PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers will be able to snag a copy later this summer. The latest entry in the series features not only a lineage theme—Sonya and Johnny’s daughter Cassie as well as Jax’s daughter Jacqui join the roster—but also a faction element and expanded move lists. Faction Wars is a persistent mode that tracks online performance and assigns earned points to the various factions, and each week the winning faction’s members will be rewarded with unlocked items. Characters also have three different fighting styles, each with their own focus and moves. Single player has also been beefed up with Living Towers, timed challenges that update regularly, as well as the return of Test Your Might, Test Your Luck, and the Krypt with its numerous unlockables.

Four-player brawler Paperbound now available for PC, PS4

Dissident Logic’s chaotic brawler Paperbound has been released for PC and PS4. Described as a “smash-up brawler that combines platforming, twitchy combat, and gravity redirection in a competitive couch multiplayer setting,” up to four players compete in enclosed arenas with 360 degrees of freedom as one of 11 characters. While the main characters are from books, others are from a variety of other titles, with fighters from Guacamelee!, VVVVVV, and Monaco. AI bots fill in any slots not assigned to other players, each with their own personality and playstyle; the studio also states that the AI will adapt to the player’s skill level.

The Shaolin Monks return in new Mortal Kombat X trailer

NetherRealm has released new footage from Mortal Kombat X. The latest trailer, Shaolin, features three characters, returning combatants Kung Lao and Liu Kang along with newcomer Kung Jin. Series fans might remember that things didn’t end well for some of the older characters in MK9, and the new video shows that the deceased have returned to the arena under the control of their old enemy Shinnok.

BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend coming soon for PS, Xbox One

Aksys is keeping the 2D fighter train rolling with another release, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend. The expanded re-release of the PS3 original will feature 28 characters, including two newcomers (Celica and Lambda), as well as new stages, scenarios, and a side story, Remix Heart, with Mai Natsume and Kajun Faycott. Digested versions of Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift are also being included to get new players up to speed on all of the storylines. New players will also have access to an expanded Stylish Mode, which has been augmented with four new features (Auto Guard, Combo Attacks, Special Abilities, and Distortion Drive) to make moves less difficult to perform. The Guard Gauge system has been tweaked, too, with the Barrier Gauge meter indicated when best to attack or block.
