Square Enix is getting back into the brawler business with Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. The follow-up to 2011’s Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy is actually a reboot of the series, however, rather than of a direct continuation. The team-based fighter was co-developed by Koei Tecmo Games and Team Ninja, and is set to make its home debut early next year. The game will feature solo and online multiplayer, a roster of over 20 characters, and three-versus-three combat. Fans of the series can learn more by streaming a panel with producer Ichiro Hazama, director Takeo Kujiraoka, Justin Wong of Echo Fox, and K-Brad at the E3 Coliseum on Tuesday, June 13, at 3:15 p.m. (PST).
The struggle for power over the Mishima clan comes to a head today with the release of Tekken 7. The latest entry features a new storyline that introduces several characters, including karate expert Kazumi Mishima and acrobat Lucky Chloe, along with Street Fighter’s Akuma. Combatants also have access to several new and tweaked abilities, such as Power Crushes, Rage Arts, and Rage Drives. The PS4 version adds a jukebox mode with tunes from throughout the series. For aspiring pros, an accompanied tournament will run throughout the remainder of the year and culminate in the World Finals this November, set to take place in North America.
PC gamers are getting the latest Guilty Gear version today with the release of Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2. The update is available through Steam for $18.99, though note that it requires Revelator. The new iteration adds two characters (Answer and the return of Baiken), storyline scenarios, balance changes, additional techniques, improved online play, and several fighter-specific episodes. With the newcomers, the roster is now up to 25 combatants. Bundles are also available for the upgrade plus its DLC as as well as others that add Revelator.
Bandai Namco has released a little eye candy for Tekken fans with the opening cinematic from Tekken 7. The video begins with an investigation into the feud between Heihachi and Kazuya, then slowly expands to reveal new characters, including Akuma, and their place in the ongoing battle between the two. Namco is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Tekken franchise with a new history-of video series. This latest series is to get everyone up to speed for Tekken 7, given the numerous plot twists, but to keep things manageable, the videos are covering a few entries at a time. The debut covers Tekken 1-3. Given those are a bit older now, it’s done in a gussied-up 8-bit style.
After months of waiting, we have some new info on Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Kicking things off, the two-versus-two fighter has been officially dated for September 19. Players will also get the chance to explore more of the universe in Story Mode, which also got a new trailer, posted below. Eight characters have also joined the fight: Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, Chun-Li, Strider Hiryu, Ultron, and Chris Redfield. Additionally, two special editions were also revealed. The $89.99 Deluxe Edition comes with the game and the six-fighter 2017 Character Pass, one of whom is Sigma. The $199.99 Collector’s Edition bundles the pass, a case filled with Infinity Stone replicas, and four character dioramas of Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Mega Man X and Chun-Li. All versions come with a pre-order bonus that adds Warrior Thor and Evil Ryu costumes, while Deluxe Edition also adds two more costumes, Gladiator Hulk and Mega Man Command Mission X.
Angel, Kula, Meitenkun, and Sylvie are expanding their wardrobe with new downloadable outfits. There are four alternate costumes on offer for $2.99 each. Players can grab some new pajamas for Meitenkun, a Little Red Riding Hood outfit for Sylvie, a sundress for Kula, and a Diabla look for Angel.
The King of Fighters XIV is expanding its roster today with a new group of downloadable characters. Four are joining the tournament, including a few fan favorites: Whip, Ryuji Yamazaki, Vanessa, and Rock Howard. The fighters are available separately for $5.99 apiece or as a $19.99 bundle. Bandai Namco has announced that Tekken 7 will launch for console and PC on June 2. The home port will expand on the arcade version with additional characters, online tournament modes, and a story mode. A new trailer has been released to highlight the story mode, along some new screens showing off some of the cinematics as well as the bundled extras. In regards to extras, the game will be released in several versions, with a Collector’s Edition and a Deluxe Edition, and are detailed below along with the various pre-order bonuses. Lastly, PS4 players will receive some freebies, including a Jukebox Mode and legacy costumes from Tekken 2 and 4 for King, Jin, and Xiaoyu.
