Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: Far Cry
After many a video tour from developers Ubisoft Montreal and Massive, Far Cry 3 is now available for 360, PC, and PS3. The open-world first-person shooter has players taking on the role of Jason Brody, a thrill-seeking tourist who finds himself, along with his friends, thrust into a crazy world of drugs and violence. Skills will be learned, animals will be hunted, and bodies will be looted. A separate multiplayer-only campaign is also available for co-op play, which centers on four criminals looking for their stolen loot six months earlier.
Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Far Cry 3 detailing the four playable characters starring in the co-op campaign. The co-op campaign is entirely separate from the main storyline, and features four hooligans out to recover their stolen loot six months prior to the arrival of Jason Brody and friends. Consoles support up to four players both online and offline via splitscreen, while PC supports online only.
Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Far Cry 3. After covering the crazy hooligans (and narcotics) that call the Rook Islands home, Massive is now revealing more about the storyline that finds you and your friends held for ransom in a lawless land. To quote Ike Clanton, “Law don’t go around here. Savvy?”
Ubisoft has released a trailer introducing Hurk, GameStop’s pre-order bonus for Far Cry 3. Hurk is an exclusive non-playable character who hands out quests and uses monkeys, strapped with explosives, to take out his enemies. He will be available for the 360 and PS3 versions, and in addition to exploding monkeys, he’ll also be bringing along four bonus missions and two multiplayer humiliations.
Ubisoft has launched the second video in their Island Survival Guides series for Far Cry 3. The new guide, Psychopaths, Drugs & Other Dangers, covers the more surreal dangers that await on the Rook Islands. Topics include psychedelic side effects, hunting, crafting, mini-games, and taking on side quests for extra cash.
A new video series has launched for Far Cry 3 that details how players can survive the rowdy Rook Islands. The first episode of the Island Survival Guide covers the island’s history, its inhabitants, and how players can expect to get around in the wilds.
Just in time for the holiday season, Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 3 will be released in the US on December 4. Players will be able to take everyman Jason Brody through a hellish journey as he attempts to escape a lawless island on their 360, PC, and PS3.
Far Cry 3 will be showing off its goods a few months early during a two-week beta run this summer. The Multiplayer Beta will be open to 360 and PS3 gamers who are GameStop PowerUp Rewards members and purchase Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on May 22. Players have the option to choose which system they want to participate in for the beta, which they will confirm through the PowerUp Rewards site. For those who want to try their luck, Ubisoft is offering 500 keys in a Facebook contest, while “Ubisoft social channels such as Ubi.com, farcrygame.com, along with partner social channels and community and media websites” will also have be doling some out.
It’s time to head back out into the wilds. Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 3 is currently in development for the 360, PC, and PS3. Scheduled to ship in 2012, development is being spearheaded Ubisoft Montréal with assistance from both Ubisoft Shanghai and Massive Entertainment.
