The battle against the Necromorph continues today with the release of Visceral Games’ Dead Space 3. New to the series are a weapon-crafting system, drop-in/drop-out multiplayer, and Kinect support for 360. Players will also venture to a new planet, the frozen world of Tau Volantis. As Sergeant John Carver, players will seek out the source of the Necromorph threat as they unlock side missions that reveal more about the monsters’ origin. EA has also announced the first DLC drop, Awakened, which will introduce a new chapter this March for 800 MS Points/$9.99.

Crysis 3 open multiplayer beta announced for 360, PC, PS3

Electronic Arts has announced that Crysis 3 will begin a two-week open multiplayer beta on January 29. Available for 360, PC, and PS3, the beta will feature two maps, Airport and Museum, and two team-based modes, including the new Hunter mode. Hunter will pit players against one another as two hunters battle a squad of Cell troopers (10 on console and 14 on PC). The hunters only have access to their powers and Predator bows, though defeated Cell troopers will fill their ranks as respawned hunters. The beta will also sport the new in-game social media feed dubbed New York Feed. The feed will not only broadcast the player’s accomplishments to other readers but also offer dynamic challenges.

Rise of the Hutt Cartel announced for Star Wars: The Old Republic

BioWare has announced that the first downloadable expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic, Rise of the Hutt Cartel, is available for pre-order. The add-on will feature a new fully voiced storyline that will see players venturing to the dual-faction planet of Makeb and battling against the Hutt Cartel. The expansion will also add new allies, enemies, and technologies, as well as five new levels of missions and an increased level cap of 55.

Crysis 3 screenshots, teaser for 7 Wonders video series released

EA has released a batch of new screenshots from Crytek’s upcoming first-person shooter, Crysis 3. The shots reveal more of the Fields, and the dangers that lurk therein, below the NYC Liberty Dome that must be traversed in order for Prophet and Sykes to reach the rebel forces. A new trailer for Hell of a Town, a video set to debut on December 12 as part Albert Hughes’ series The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3, has also been released.

Amazon and GameStop offer new pre-order extras for Dead Space 3

Visceral Games has announced two new pre-order incentives for their upcoming action title Dead Space 3. Gamers who pre-order the title at GameStop will receive the EG-900 SMG, while those who pre-order through Amazon will gain access to the shockingly accurate (ha!) Tesla Enervator. It was also noted that these are in addition to the First Contact and Witness the Truth pre-order bundles bonus content, which are part of the first run Limited Edition batch.

Mass Effect 3 Special Edition now available for Wii U

Wii U owners looking for an intergalactic adventure will be able to ship out today with Mass Effect 3 Special Edition. The new version includes five single- and multiplayer DLC packs (Earth, Extended Cut, From Ashes, Rebellion, and Resurgence), as well as Genesis II, an interactive comic from Dark Horse that covers the events of the first two games. GamePad support has also been added, allowing for direct play on the controller and use of the touchscreen to control team abilities and movements as well as to view enemies on a tactical mini map.

BioWare has released a new update for Star Wars: The Old Republic, Game Update 1.5: HK-51 Activated, coinciding with the launch of the game’s new free-to-play option. Newcomers can now play the game for free up to level 50, as well as complete the storylines of all eight classes. All players are able to access the new content introduced in Game Update 1.5: HK-51 Activated, which includes a new mode, new areas, and a new Companion character.

BioWare has kicked off N7 Day with the release of Mass Effect Trilogy for 360 and PC. The $59.99 collection will be available for the PS3 on December 4, and will mark the first time PS3 gamers get a chance to experience the original in full as either part of the set or as a standalone download from PSN for $14.99. Current players will be able to get into the festivities tomorrow with the N7 Day Loyalty Pack, a one-day-only free DLC drop. The 360, PC, and PS3 download will include rare weapons and six consumables.
