Balrog, Ibuki, and Story Mode launching tomorrow for Street Fighter V

Capcom has detailed tomorrow’s big update for Street Fighter V. The patch will add the new five-act cinematic story mode, A Shadow Falls, and two new characters, returning brawlers Balrog and Ibuki. The former will be free for everyone, while the latter will require purchase with earned Fight Money or cash. A Shadow Falls takes place between Street Fighter IV and III, with the 16 core characters battling it out as a World Warrior or a member of Shadaloo. Six released and unreleased post-launch downloadable characters are also going to take part. In addition to Balrog and Ibuki, both detailed below, the update will feature their stages, Las Vegas and Karin’s Kanzuki Family Private Beach. General tweaks include “faster and smarter matching” for multiplayer and Currency Shop options to use real money through PS Store and Steam.

State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition getting physical release

Nordic Games is once again teaming up with Microsoft to deliver a physical copy of an MS-published title for PC, State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition. As with Oni and the Blind Forest, the retail version will come with the game and several extras, including two add-ons (Breakdown and Lifeline), a double-sided A3 poster, a soundtrack CD, and premium packaging. Note that, while the game is on a DVD, Steam is required for activation.

Halo 5: Guardians – Warzone Firefight goes live for free, trailer up

Halo 5: Guardians’ eighth, and according to 343 the largest, free content update has gone live. Warzone Firefight includes two armor sets, three maps, customization options, the Halo 2 Beam rifle, the UNSC air vehicle, and a Forge canvas, Tidal. Additionally, players can tackle the new Score Attack mode in the campaign and Warzone Firefight online. A limited-time promo also kicks off today, the Firefight REQ Reward program, which bestows a Gold REQ Pack to everyone who plays Guardians. Ten are available, the remaining being unlocked by playing in Warzone Firefight. As previously mentioned, Halo 5: Guardians is free to download for Gold members from today until July 5, and the full version is 50% off via Xbox Store.

Prison Architect, DLC now available for PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Prison Architect is now available digitally and physically for PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Released last year for PC, Introversion Software’s prison sim was ported by Double Eleven. The console version features a story mode, sandbox mode, and new in-game community features that allow players to build, maintain, and share their prisons. Additional downloadable content has also gone live, All Day and a Night, for $9.99. The DLC adds eight unique wardens, prison maps, and expansion plots. Each warden has their own play style, and they will be able to build penitentiaries in an abandoned city block, a desert, and other odd locales.

Sega has released a demo for 7th Dragon III Code: VFD. The upcoming role-playing game tasks players with hunting down dragons throughout different eras, and the demo allows eager adventurers to get an early start by offering demo save transfers. The trial offers a pre-made squad with a level cap of 10. However, players who carry over their save will be able to customize the party as well as reassign all skill points in the full version. There’s also a special reward for those who try the demo, but Sega is being tight-lipped about the details.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III’s third downloadable pack, Descent, got its first trailer today. The add-on, debuting on PSN on July 12, features four multiplayer maps as well as the next installment in Zombies. The maps, detailed below, include Empire, a reimagined versions of Black Ops II’s Raid; Berserk, a Viking village; Rumble, set in an arena where giant robots battle; and Cryogen, a prison filled with cryogenic tubes. The new Zombies entry, Gorod Krovi, sees the Origins gang in an alternate USSR where the remains of Stalingrad are dominated by mechanized zombies.

Halo 5: Guardians will be receiving free additional content next Wednesday in a new update, Warzone Firefight. The eighth expansion will add the new game mode, and update namesake, Warzone Firefight. After some time in beta, the final version of the mode will have a gradually increasing difficulty level, along with new bosses and REQs. The REQs will offer new vehicles, armors, and weapons (UNSC VTOL, AV-49 Wasp, etc.). These will be accessible in Forge as well, which is also getting a new canvas, the ocean-themed Tidal. Multiplayer will be expanded with three new maps: Attack on Sanctum, Prospect, and Molten. The campaign isn’t being left out, either, as it will get Score Attack. As in previous titles, Score Attack allows players to compete with one another for the highest score, solo or in co-op, with points determined by how stylishly enemies are defeated. 343 is planning on showing everyone the ropes with a Firefight pre-release livestream at the official Twitch channel on June 28, 4 p.m. (CST).

A new mini-game has launched for the console versions of Minecraft, Battle. The free update includes the mode as well as three maps, and more map packs are planned to launch in the future for $2.99 each. The last-man-standing mode has players battle for resources and weapons in booby-trapped arenas. The maps were designed specifically for consoles so that they are “super-accessible and fast-paced, made to support couch-based competition just as easily as online matchmaking.”

Bungie announces new Destiny expansion, Rise of Iron

Destiny is being expanded later this year with the new Rise of Iron expansion. Beginning September 20, the $29.99 add-on will augment the base game and two The Taken King expansions (re: they are required) with a new storyline that will see players becoming Iron Lords as they join with old heroes to face a spreading plague. The pack will add a new setting on Earth, The Plaguelands, along with a six-player Raid (Felwinter Peak), three-player co-op Strike, social space, weapons, gear, multiplayer maps, and a mutated variation of the Fallen. To combat the new threats, the Light level will be increased and the Gjallarhorn will be reintroduced.
