Role-playing fans will need to wait a little longer to return to the lands of Rivellon. Larian Studios has announced that the Kickstarter-funded Divine Divinity prequel Divinity: Original Sin will be delayed until spring. The kinks of the latest entry’s many features, from the two-player co-op play to the game world’s numerous interactive objects, have been noted by those playing through the game’s early portion via Steam Early Access, and it’s their feedback that’s behind the delay. To be more precise, “the extra time will be used to implement feedback received from Steam Early Access players and Kickstarter backers” and that “Larian is taking the time necessary to make it right and polished.”
Larian’s partly Kickstarter-backed role-playing game Divinity: Original Sin has gone into alpha for campaign backers. The alpha includes an estimated 10-20% of the full game, which makes up around 10-15 hours of content. Much of the starting city of Cyseal is open, plus some dungeons. The alpha is single player for now, but multiplayer will be added later; also, the release noted that there are still placeholders, but those will be replaced as the game is updated. A 41-minute video has been made to detail what’s currently available for play. Backers can get their Steam key by registering or signing in on the Larian Vault with the email used to back the game.
Larian joins the growing list of studios who are turning to Kickstarter for funding. The campaign isn’t for Dragon Commander, though, but a new open-world RPG set in the Divinity universe titled Divinity: Original Sin. Things are a little different this time as Larian has been self-funding the game’s development for over two years, and is utilizing Kickstarter to “enhance” the game during its final phase. The extra funds raised will be used to create a secondary design team who will “increase the amount of interesting things you can do in the world, as much as possible” and “increase the depth and diversity.”
It’s been a busy week for Larian Studios. First, the announcement of the limited edition Divinity Anthology Collector’s Edition, and now, a new ‘Pay What You Want’ initiative with GOG.com. From now until October 18, gamers who have yet to try one or all of Larian’s Divinity collection—Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, and Divinity II—have the chance to snag any or all at a discounted price.
As hard as it is to believe, it’s been 10 years since Divine Divinity hit store shelves. To celebrate the anniversary, Larian Studios has announced the release of a new premium bundle: Divinity Anthology Collector’s Edition. Limited to 25,000 units, the set includes Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, and Divine Divinity II: Developer’s Cut (original game, Flames of Vengeance expansion, and access to Developer Mode), as well as a host of extras: two soundtracks, a 130-page Developer’s Journal, sticker set, two double-sided posters, and two codes for exclusive in-game items for next year’s Divinity: Dragon Commander and Divinity: Original Sin.
Larian Studios’ ten-year-old action-RPG Divine Divinity has launched on Steam. Although already available on GOG.com, the Steam release is an updated version that offers support for Windows 7 and higher resolutions. As a warrior, mage, or ranger, players must set off on a quest as the Chosen One to unite the seven races of Rivellon (cue dramatic music).
