Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: Diablo
It seems as though Blizzard’s little-known title Diablo III is doing well for the indie studio, selling over 3.5 million copies within the first 24 hours. According to the upstart, their internal records mark this as the “all-time record for fastest-selling PC game.” Blizzard also notes that the 3.5 figure does not represent the 1.2 million-plus players who received the game as part of the Annual Pass promotion for World of Warcraft.
Itching to try Diablo III? Well, now is your chance. Blizzard is going to run an open beta weekend, from Friday at noon (as in, right now … or past now) until Monday at 10:00 a.m., for everyone with a valid Battle.net account. The three-day stress test will help Blizzard hammer out any problems ahead of the game’s May 15 release. The beta will allow access to each of the five classes, and each can be taken up to level 13.
It’s finally here, ye demon-slaying heroes—the release date for Diablo III. Blizzard has announced that the action role-playing series will unleash its button-bashing goodness onto store shelves and the Battle.net online store on May 15. Those looking to get a free digital copy of Diablo III through the World of Warcraft Annual Pass Promotion have until May 1 to sign up. Global digital presales also began today at the official site.
Blizzard has announced that tickets for the sixth annual BlizzCon convention will go on sale in two batches, starting on Saturday, May 21. For those who don’t get in the first time around, the second batch will go on sale on Wednesday, May 25. Tickets are $175 and will be available at BlizzCon.com.
