Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: Cave Story
After months of teasing eager spelunkers, NIS has shipped Cave Story 3D for the 3DS. The action side-scroller has made it past a slight delay and is now on its way to store shelves. The updated version of the PC freeware superstar includes new modes, such as Sprite Mode and, for a more traditional feel, 2D Mode.
NIS has sent along some new screenshots of their upcoming action-platformer Cave Story 3D. These shots show off the 2D mode that can be turned on in the options, which reverts the character back to the original 2D sprite version while the environments remain in 3D.
Some bad news on the Cave Story 3D front: the game has been pushed back to November 8, “due to additional game improvements.” But there is some good news! A second batch of screenshots has been released, showing off some of the development progress that’s been made—check out that dual-screen action (ow!).
The eagerly anticipated—well, around these parts anyway—Cave Story 3D has been officially dated. The freeware PC hit that went on to hook Wii gamers with its perfectly paced side-scrolling action is slated to launch for the 3DS on August 9. In addition to the revamped visuals, Cave Story 3D will also sport a remixed soundtrack.
