Street Fighter V update adds first DLC character, Alex

Street Fighter V’s first post-launch roster addition, Alex, is now downloadable. Returning from Street Fighter III, Alex is a hulking grappler that will set players back 100,000 in Fight Money. In addition, new story costumes have been added to the recently launched In-Game Shop that run 40,000 FM each. The in-game currency is earned as players go through the game. The real-world cash equivalent, Zenny, has yet to be implemented, so Alex will be available for a free trial period that will end once Zenny is implemented; at that point, players will need to purchase him (and any other DLC characters released by then) with Zenny or FM. An update earlier this week added several modes and features, including Demonstrations, Trials, Online Rematch for a 2/3 set, eight-person lobbies, and match spectating.

Resident Evil turns 20, Capcom celebrates with developer video series

Resident Evil has turned 20 years old. The series that took the cinematic survival-horror formula to new heights is celebrating its 66 million copies sold, multiple films, and future with a series of videos highlight the franchise’s history. Developer interviews will take players back to the beginning, starting today with a new video featuring producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi. In addition to videos, other events and festivities are planned throughout the year in a multi-month long celebration.

Monster Hunter Generations launching this summer for 3DS

Monster Hunter X will be coming stateside this summer as Monster Hunter Generations. The game features callbacks to previous entries with popular areas and monsters returning in an updated form to fit with the new content. As a hunter, players seek out and take down giant beasts, earning Zenny and gathering the resources necessary to craft better armor and weapons. Amidst the hunting trips, four villages also need to be protected from new threats known as the Fated Four. There is a greater emphasis on customization this time around, with Styles and Hunter Arts. Unique playstyles can be molded by choosing moves from four different combat Styles, while Hunter Arts add new skills and power-ups. In Prowler Mode, players get to play as a Felyne for the first time, complete with unique quests.



Umbrella Corps screenshots, trailer, and details released

Capcom has given a bit more detail about their upcoming action title Umbrella Corps. The previously announced One Life Match mode will be joined by Multi-Mission. The mode will pit two teams of up to six players total against one another out in a best of five three-minute rounds. Eight rulesets will cycle randomly, ranging from having to collect five briefcases to a variant of dog tags where players must collect data collars of downed allies and enemies. Physical version of Mega Man Legacy Collection out now

Capcom has released the physical copy of the previously digital-only Mega Man Legacy Collection for 3DS, PS4, and Xbox One. The 3DS version is also available in a Collector’s Edition that comes bundled with a gold-colored Mega Man amiibo, which unlocks 11 new remix challenges, and postcards. All versions include the first six Mega Man games as well as several unlockable extras, including Challenge Mode and Museum Mode.

Street Fighter V launches in stores, online for PC and PS4

Seven years and four iterations later, Capcom has officially moved on from Street Fighter IV today with the release of Street Fighter V. (A moment of silence, please.) The cross-platform PC, PS4 fighter returns with “exciting and accessible battle mechanics,” new fighters, and the reappearance of a few Street Fighter Alpha veterans. The entry also introduces two forms of in-game currency to unlock new content, Fight Money and Zenny. The former is earned during play while the latter is purchased with real cash, but everything, including costumes and characters, will be unlockable through gameplay. The first content update is slated to launch next month, which will open the in-game story and add Street Fighter III’s Alex to the roster. A free story expansion is also in the works and set to go live this June.

Bandai Namco has released the launch trailer for Project X Zone 2. The 3DS-exclusive tactical role-playing game features characters from numerous titles across properties from Bandai Namco, Capcom, and Sega. Characters from .hack//, Megaman X, Strider, Tekken, Tales of Vesperia, Virtua Fighter, and more all make an appearance, teaming up to once again save the world.



Umbrella Corps launching his May, new screens, trailer released

Umbrella Corps, the upcoming Resident Evil-themed arena shooter, will be hitting digital outlets this May for PC and PS4. In addition to a multiplayer component, there will also be a single-player campaign, The Experiment. Solo play will consist of over 20 multi-objective missions, tasking the player with battling through a “coliseum style horde-like mode” without the Zombie Jammer device found in multiplayer. Arenas will be based after areas found in Resident Evil 4 and 5, including the remote village from the fourth, and host numerous familiar enemies, such as the Ganados and Cerberus dogs. A new trailer was released alongside a handful of screenshots, all of which have been posted below.

Street Fighter V to get free cinematic story expansion this June

Capcom revealed new story details for Street Fighter V. Set between Street Fighters III and IV, the fifth entry will feature character stories that set the stage for a free cinematic story expansion that is scheduled to be released in June. Their stories will feature art by Bengus, who has a lengthy history with Capcom, having worked on such titles as Street Fighter Alpha, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and the original Street Fighter. A new trailer and screenshots were released for the upcoming expansion, check them out below. Also for those who have been playing online, a bonus, final beta test has been scheduled for January 30-31.

Resident Evil 0 now available online, in stores for PS4, Xbox One

Capcom continues the Resident Evil remaster trend today with the release of Resident Evil 0. Available digitally and in stores, the prequel takes place back in 1998, before Chris and Jill set foot in Raccoon City. As STARS medic Rebecca Chambers and fugitive ex-Marine Billy Coen, players will have to uncover the truth behind a nearby outbreak by swapping between the two to solve puzzles, look for clues, and of course, defeat mutants aplenty. This version features updated graphics and audio, a new optional control scheme, and the post-game Wesker Mode, which features a beefed-up Wesker and Rebecca in an alternate uniform.
