Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: Blake Stone: Planet Strike
3D Realms has returned after a five-year hiatus. The studio has reopened its doors with many of its original members returning, including Scott Miller, along with newcomers Coolshop.com CEO and founder Mike Nielsen and Interceptor Entertainment CEO Frederik Schreiber. Their first release is a 32-title collection, 3D Realms Anthology. The full list of titles is available below, but some of the highlights are top-down shooter Raptor: Call of the Shadows, vehicle shooter Terminal Velocity, and of course, Duke Nukem 3D. The games have been updated with “re-rockestrated” soundtracks and to run on modern systems without any DRM. The pack is $39.99 regularly but is on sale for $19.99 for the next 48 hours.
Apogee Software has reached deep into their archives and released the source code for the nearly 20-year-old first-person shooter Blake Stone: Planet Strike. Now that it’s part of the Apogee Throwback Pack, the studio hopes the rekindled interest in the series will lead to some new mods and total conversions. The source code can be downloaded in full here, but be warned: it’s just over 300kb.
The upcoming Unreal Engine 3-powered remake of Rise of the Triad from Interceptor Entertainment has been officially dated for July 31. Publisher Apogee Software also announced a new pre-order bonus for the $14.99 release, with early buyers receiving a four-game compilation dubbed the Apogee Throwback Pack for free. The set, normally $9.99, includes Rise of the Triad: Dark War, Extreme Rise of the Triad, Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, and Blake Stone: Planet Strike. The deal is available on Apogee’s official site, GOG.com, Green Man Gaming, and Steam.
