After Mars, Doom to head to Indianapolis for Grand Prix, 500

In a bit of news that I don’t think many saw coming, ZeniMax will be dabbling in racing with the debut of the Doom car at the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis on May 14. SMP Racing driver Mikhail Aleshin will be behind the wheel of the No. 7 car, and he will again take it out in the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 29. The livery was revealed this morning, and a trailer mixing shots of the car with gameplay can be viewed below. For those wanting to check out all of the action, Aleshin will be on the track at 11 in the morning for the first practice.

Doom gets messy with shotguns, demon guts in launch trailer

Doom hits store shelves and digital outlets next week, and to get everyone’s trigger finger itching, Bethesda has released a launch trailer. id Software’s return to the series finds the Doom Marine once again knee-deep among the dead, and the minions of Hell. The reboot will feature a single-player campaign, multiplayer, and the SnapMap game editor to create and share levels. (WADs? It’s 1993 all over again!)

Fallout 4 – Far Harbor launching May 19, first-look trailer released

Bethesda has released the first look at the third add-on for Fallout 4, Far Harbor. The $24.99 download, slated to go live on May 19, adds the new island Far Harbor, noted as the largest landmass of any add-on from the studio. After players are sent a new case from Valentine’s Detective Agency, they land on the isle, located just off the coast of Maine, and find it even harsher than home due to higher levels of radiation. A new storyline soon unfolds surrounding a conflict between the local townsfolk, the Children of the Atom, and the synths. Players will also find new armor, faction quests, settlements, dungeons, weapons, and creatures.

Dishonored 2 coming out of the shadows on Nov. 11 for console, PC

Arkane Studios will be returning to Dunwall this November with Dishonored 2. Scheduled to launch on Friday, November 11, Dishonored 2 will once again put players in the shoes of infamous assassin Corvo Attano, but now players will get the chance to play as his royal charge, Empress Emily Kaldwin. Combat will once again feature a mixture of melee, medium- and long-range arms, and supernatural powers. Missions also have a branching structure, with the story shifting in response to the player’s actions. More details are in the current digital issue of Game Informer, while gameplay will premiere during Bethesda’s 2016 E3 Showcase, which will be streamed at 9 p.m. (CST) on June 12 on Twitch and Youtube.

Mods now in open beta, available in-game in Fallout 4 for PC

New details have been released from Bethesda about Fallout 4 mods and the Creation Kit. The modding suit is currently downloadable for PC, and with the tools, players can add characters, weapons, outfits, environments, dialog, and entire quests. As part of the latest game update, players can now browse and search for user-created mods, post feedback, and install them from within the game. For those who want to try their hand at making a mod, the Creation Kit can be downloaded from the Bethesda.net launcher. Instructions on how to access the 1.5 update in Steam can be found below. Console users will get a chance to try mods in June.

Codes being sent for Forza 6’s Fallout-inspired Chryslus Rocket ’69

Microsoft has sent word that codes for Forza 6’s Fallout-themed Chryslus Rocket ’69 have been sent out via Live. Players who have spent time with either Fallout 4 or Forza Motorsport 6 while connected to their Xbox Live profile will receive a code. They note that codes might take up to seven days to arrive due to several million being sent out. Also, those who buy either title by the end of the month will receive a code as well, and those will be sent out in early May.

Spruce up your settlement today with Fallout 4 – Wasteland Workshop

Bethesda has released the second downloadable add-on for Fallout 4, Wasteland Workshop. The $4.99 pack adds new settlement options, including letter kits, nixie tube lighting, and taxidermy. The drop also adds the ability to design and set cages that are capable of capturing both man and monster. Next up is Far Harbor, set to be released next month. Beyond that, Creation Kit, the tool suite that will bring PC mods to console, is planned for later in 2016.

Doom multiplayer beta opening to all on April 15, DLC plans detailed

id Software is opening up the Doom multiplayer beta to everyone beginning April 15. Through April 17, players will be able to jump into the beta without a code and try out two modes—Team Deathmatch and Warpath—on Heatwave and Infernal. Post-launch content was also announced, and will come in the form of updates for SnapMap and multiplayer. For SnapMap, the game’s map-making and sharing suite, there are plans to release new AI enhancements, features, modules, objects, and props. Multiplayer will receive free game modes as well as for-pay packs. The latter will add new maps, hack modules, playable demons, and weapons beginning this summer. Each drop will cost $14.99 each or $39.99 as part of the Season Pass.

Doom live-action trailer, closed multiplayer beta go live

Bethesda has released a new live-action trailer for Doom. With apologies to The Rock, the one minute of the lone marine battling demons is better than the entirety of the 2005 film. The video’s release coincides with the launch of the closed multiplayer beta. The beta is ongoing for all systems and runs through April 3. To get beta players up to speed on the mechanics, id has created a playlist of gameplay videos.

Fallout 4 – Automatron DLC now available for console, PC

Automatron, the first download pack for Fallout 4, is now available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The $9.99 download introduces Mechanist, a new villain who leads an army of killer robots against the Commonwealth. Players can salvage parts from said killer robots to build customized companions. These robotic pals can be modified with various mods, abilities, armor, limbs, and paint schemes. Automatron will be followed by April’s Wasteland Workshop, which will introduce new settlement options, while a large new landmass will be added in May’s Far Harbor.
