11 bit studios announces new grim survival sim, This War of Mine

11 bit studios, creators of the Anomaly tower-offense series, has announced their next title: This War of Mine. Currently in development for PC and mobile devices, This War of Mine will require that players “make life-and-death decisions based on their conscience” as they attempt to survive in a makeshift shelter during an ongoing war. Described as a “dark survival game,” players will lead a handful of survivors as they scavenge during the night and spend their days upgrading their shelter, crafting items, and trading with other survivors. Additional details will be revealed at this year’s Game Developers Conference.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes getting early-run DLC, mobile app

Konami has revealed more info about Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain prequel Ground Zeroes. An early-bird bonus will be available for both games, with buyers of the first-run physical or launch-period online copies of Ground Zeroes receiving DLC for Phantom Pain. The pack will add more personnel for Mother Base. The two games will be further linked by the ability to bring over character skins as well as freed prisoners of war and rescued VIPs from Ground Zeroes to Phantom Pain, the latter also serving as staff in Mother Base. It was also announced that the PS4 and Xbox One will also be receiving physical and digital copies of Ground Zeroes for $29.99.

Indie-centric Phoenix Online Publishing launches, line-up detailed

Phoenix Online Studios has announced that they have launched a new indie publishing label, Phoenix Online Publishing. The new studio will release titles both online and in stores from a variety of genres, including role-playing, strategy, and adventure, that feature “rich storytelling and atmosphere.” The initial roster is comprised on four titles: Jane Jensen’s latest adventure, Moebius: Empire Rising; Infamous Quest’s Kickstarter-backed role-playing game Quest for Infamy; The Game Kitchen’s horror-themed adventure title The Last Door: Collector’s Edition; and the hidden-object puzzler Lost Civilization. GSF spreads to mobiles, tablets in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has launched for Android, Amazon Kindle HDX, and iOS. The mobile version sports re-mastered visuals with enhanced lighting, an expanded color palette, and touched-up character models. The Android version also supports USB and Bluetooth controllers, including the MOGA series, while iOS 7 users can take advantage of ‘Made for’ iOS controllers. All versions support Rockstar Games Social Club, which allows for stat tracking and multi-device, cross-platform saving via the cloud.

Mobile gamers will be able to hit the streets of San Andreas soon. Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be launching next month for select Android, Amazon Kindle, iOS, and Windows Mobile devices. The new version will feature dynamic shadows, an expanded color palette, a longer draw distance, and improved character and car models. In addition to the graphical upgrades, San Andreas will feature a reworked checkpoint system, controller support for iOS7, and new touch controls, including contextual control options to only display buttons when needed and three different control schemes.

Sony has announced a day-one patch for PS4. The 300 MB update, detailed below, will allow access for a variety of features, including Remote Play for playing games on PS Vita, Second Screen for using smartphones and tablets as additional screens, a screen- and video-capturing utility, eight-user party chat, and the play-as-you-download feature. Surprisingly, the ability to play DVDs and Blu-ray video discs requires users to go online beforehand. Sony also announced that suspend/resume mode, among other features, will be unavailable at launch, either out the box or post patch.

Sword of the Stars: Ground Pounders demo launches for Android, PC

Kerberos has released an Android demo and an updated PC demo for their Sword of the Stars wargame spin-off Ground Pounders. Both demos are from alpha builds, with the Windows update adding air and engineering units. The early hands-on trials are to demonstrate the studio’s progress in order to drum up support for the final stage of funding through a Kickstarter campaign. All but the final months have been financed by Kerberos, and they are looking to crowdsourcing for the final push. Unlike the other Sword of the Starts spin-off The Pit, Ground Pounder features Panzer General-style gameplay with armies battling over colorful hexagon grids in turn-based combat.

Mutant League’s return Kickstarted as Mutant Football League

Gamers who cut their teeth during the 16-bit era will undoubtedly remember EA’s strange Mutant League series for the Sega Genesis. The violent sports line featured teams of monsters and mutants battling it out in football and hockey. Now, on the 20th anniversary of Mutant League Football’s release, series creator Michael Mendheim is looking to resurrect the line with Mutant Football League. Mendheim is hoping to crowdsource enough funding through Kickstarter to develop and release the spiritual success for Android, iOS, and Xbox Live Arcade. Some of the planned features include 30 teams, stadium traps, weapon-wielding fans, team and character customization, four-plus races, and a loaded arsenal including bombs and chainsaws.

Terraria now available for Android

Terraria, the popular crafting-survival-RPG hybrid from Re-Logic, is now available for Android. Publisher 505 Games has announced that the latest version, developed by Codeglue, features several Android exclusives, including an Android robot companion, leaderboard support, and Facebook integration. And of course, all of the exploration, crafting, battling, and building returns. Android users can download the game for free to give it a spin or purchase the game unlock for $4.99.



Samurai Shodown II mobile updated with new mode, MOGA support

The free download adds the new Training Mode to both versions, and the Android version also receives support for the MOGA controller.
