Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: Akai Katana
Xbox Live Games on Demand just got a bit shump-ier today with the launch of Akai Katana. The Rising Star Games-published, Cave-developed shooter features three modes, local co-op play, leaderboard support, and new settings. The Games on Demand version is going for a cool $24.99.
Cave fans itching for some bullet-hell action (or, to get a bit jargony, Pew! Pew! Pew! action) should keep their eyes out for their latest 360 shooter, Akai Katana. Publisher Rising Star Games has shipped their North American debut to retail, which will soon be transporting players to an alternate dimension where a bloodthirsty Japanese emperor is sacrificing his people to power his katana. The game features three modes (Arcade, Slash, and Cimax), original Arcade settings, online leaderboards and replays, and local two-player co-op.
With Rising Star Games’ North American debut a week away, the publisher has announced their DLC plans for Akai Katana. The Cave shooter will launch on May 15, but starting today, gamers can download the first of four planned DLC packs, a theme pack for 240 MS Points. The following week, on May 14, a ten-picture pack will be available for 160 MS Points. Another round of each will see the month through, with a second theme pack launching on May 21 for 240 MS Point and a second picture pack on May 28 for 160 MS Points.
Rising Star Games, the European publisher who just opened a brand-new office in our part of the world, has announced that they have reached a distribution deal with Aksys Games. Aksys, known for publishing the hit BlazBlue fighter series and surreal Bit.Trip series, will offer sales and logistics support as Rising Star rolls out their 2012 line-up. Their first collaborative effort will be Cave’s upcoming 360 shooter Akai Katana.
Rising Star Games has released a new trailer for Akai Katana, the newest 360 shooter from Cave. Some of the game’s features were also announced. In addition to online leaderboard support and downloadable replays, there will be three gameplay modes (Origin/Arcade, Slash, and Climax), optional Original Arcade settings, and local two-player co-op support in Arcade.
Rising Star Games has released the first trailer for their inaugural North American release, Akai Katana. The upcoming Cave-developed shooter is set in a parallel world during a turning point in the Taisho period. After the discovery of a blood katana, the empire turned to human sacrifice in order to unlock its full power. The sacrifices have resulted in a rebellion, with the empire’s enemies taking to the skies in fighter planes and wielding their own powerful swords against the imperial forces.
Rising Star Games, a UK-based publisher known to us as The Bringer of Region-Free DoDonPachi Resurrection, has expanded into North America. The company has recently opened up a new headquarters in California and named Phil Robinson, former head of communications at Tradewest Games, as vice president of operations for the US branch. Speaking of DoDonPachi, Rising Star also announced that they will be publishing a new Xbox 360 Cave shooter next quarter, Akai Katana.
