Destiny trailer and screens released, pre-order beta access detailed

As mentioned yesterday, Activision has released a new trailer, along with a new batch of screenshots, from Bungie’s Destiny. The trailer, titled The Moon, showcases one of the game’s locations as well as one of the four enemy races, the Hive. It was also revealed that gamers who pre-order at a participating retailer will be able to take part in an upcoming beta before the general public. The beta is scheduled to begin early next year for 360, PS3, PS4, and Xbox One and will feature “a diverse sampling of major activities featured in the full game.”

It’s that time, PC and PS3 Call of Duty fans: the Black Ops II Season Pass has come to an end. The last drop, Apocalypse, has launched on PSN and Steam. The finale includes four new multiplayer maps and a new Zombies mode, Origins. The maps, detailed below, include Pod, Frost, Takeoff (based off of Stadium from Black Ops’ First Strike pack), and Dig (an adaptation of World at War’s Courtyard). Origins transports Zombies players to a Dieselpunk-styled World War I-era France where they will fight alongside four old comrades (Tank, Nikolai, Takeo, and Rictofen).

Space shootouts and more in Call of Duty: Ghosts campaign trailer

A new single-player campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts has been released by Activision. The nearly three-minute video begins with a gunfight … in space. It looks as though Infinity Ward is on track to top Modern Warfare 3’s campaign, which was ridiculously over the top with global carnage and a rather nice near-future invasion of Normandy. As someone who plays the campaign: thumbs up.

Call of Duty storms App Store with Call of Duty: Strike Team

iOS received its Call of Duty debut today with the release of Call of Duty: Strike Team. The latest from developer The Blast Furnace is the first mobile entry for the series, and it’s also the first to prominently feature a focus on shifting perspectives. Players are tasked with commanding a squad of up to four Strike Team members, customizing their skills and gear, in hot spots around the globe. A third-person perspective allows commanders to get a better view of the battlefield, while a first-person view offers a ground-level view of the action. Strike Team includes a story-driven, single-player campaign, Survival Mode, and leaderboard support.

Skylanders will be venturing out into handhelds again this fall with the launch of Skylanders Swap Force for 3DS. The n-Space-developed entry will feature a new story, new levels, and three new starter-pack characters (Free Ranger, Rattle Shake, Volcanic, and Eruptor). The story follows the attack on Boomtown, the hometown of Flynn, and the kidnap of Cali by a new villain, Count Monkeybone. Players must save the town and Cali from this new menace.

Call of Duty: Ghosts upgrade announced, current to next gen for $10

Sony’s publisher-specific upgrade promotion we mentioned yesterday, as part of a plan to ease the transition to PS4 by allowing PS3 owners to purchase digital versions of PS4 titles for a discounted price, has been detailed a bit more by Activision. The publisher announced today that gamers who purchase the PS3 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts will be able to upgrade to the PS4 version for $10 for a limited time. However, they also announced that they have struck a deal with Amazon and GameStop to allow Xbox 360 owners the same opportunity, who will now be able to upgrade to the Xbox One version for $10. There are also plans to allow for Season Pass Content and in-game progress to be transferred over at no charge for a limited time.
