Activision to boost eSports presence with Call of Duty World League

Activision has created a global eSports league for Call of Duty, the aptly named Call of Duty World League. The program is being set up to encourage casual fans to try their hand at competitive play and “provide a deeper level of engagement” for current professionals. The league will consist of two divisions, The Pro Division and The Challenge Division, with the latter providing an avenue for amateurs to win a spot at the Call of Duty Championship. Activision is ponying up $3 million in prizes and has set up a team to help facilitate the league leading up to and after its launch alongside Black Ops III. Full details can be found below.

Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition, DLC now available

Destiny: The Taken King is now available online and in stores. The expansion introduces a new enemy, King Oryx, who has unleashed his soldiers in revenge for the death of his son Crota. In addition to the quest to defeat Oryx, The Taken King adds three new Guardian subclasses, Strikes, and Crucible maps, along with the new King’s Fall Raid and new armor and weapons. King’s Fall will go live at noon (CST) on Friday, September 18. New players can opt to grab Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition, which also includes the first two expansions, The Dark Below and House of Wolves, for $59.99. For current players, The Taken Ling can be purchased by itself for $39.99. A one-time character boost, Spark of Light, will be included with both in order to get players up to level 25 so that they can take part in the new content.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – Reckoning is now available for PC, PS3, and PS4. The final download includes four new maps (Fracture, Overload, Quarantine, and Swarm), an Exo Grapple playlist, and the Exo Zombies finale, Descent. Descent adds a new ocean-based Atlas setting, a ‘fused’ enemy type, and the Trident Reflected Energy weapon. Map details can be found below.

Activision has released a new character trailer, an interview with Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen, and pre-order bonus details for Transformers: Devastation. The PlatinumGames-developed title will come with free downloadable content for all those who pre-order, a character skin pack and a weapon pack. The skin pack will come with three alternate costumes (Nemesis Prime, Red Alert, and Goldfire), while the weapon pack will bundle together the Dark Star Saber, the Photon Disruptor, and the twin Gold Hunter blaster pistols. Beginning at 1 p.m. (CST), Bungie community manager DeeJ will explore the Dreadnaught, taking part in events and gathering loot, along with designer Ben Wommack, community guest Laced Up Lauren, and closing guest Luke Smith. Call of Duty: Black Ops III PS4 multiplayer beta extended until tonight

Treyarch has announced through their Twitter account that they are extending the Call of Duty: Black Ops III PS4 beta through 10 p.m. (PST) tonight. They also added and adjusted several items during the weekend. The Spectre specialist was added, as was a new attack-and-defend mode, Safeguard, and the level cap was increased to 40. Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer beta is a go for PS4

The multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops III is now live for PS4. From today until Sunday, early buyers will be able to try out three maps, seven modes, eight Specialists (two of which haven’t been revealed), and weapon-customization options. For those that take part, a feedback form has been set up so that Treyarch can get an idea of players’ thoughts on the current state of multiplayer. Events are also planned during the period, but no info is as yet known as to what’s in store. To keep up to date on all of the events, keep an eye on Treyarch’s blog, which will be updated throughout the period.
