Destiny to come out simultaneously for PS3 and PS4, trailer released

Bungie has released more details about the recently announced Destiny, their upcoming first-person shooter that takes place in a hub-based persistent world. Coinciding with PlayStation Meeting 2013, studio co-founder Jason Jones announced that both the PS3 and PS4 versions will be available when Destiny launches. Studio president Harold Ryan also revealed that the PlayStation line will include exclusive content.

Bungie has officially revealed Destiny, their new first-person shooter that is being developed in collaboration with Activision. As a Guardian of the last city on Earth, players will travel through the solar system, from Mars to Venus, using powers and more traditional armament against man’s enemies in a bid to recapture humanity’s former glory. Destiny will feature a shared persistent world, with console players able to connect with others in designated places to discuss their solo adventures or set out together. Co-op, versus, public, and social activities are planned.

Spider-Man will be making his Wii U debut on March 5 with the recently announced The Amazing Spider-Man Ultimate Edition. The new version of The Amazing Spider-Man will include the four bonus DLC packs on-disc that were released for the 360, PC, and PS3, detailed below, and support for the GamePad. The pad will be turned into an Oscorp OsPhone for easier map and menu navigation, and utilized for Off-screen Mode for playing directly on the pad itself.

Activision announces Black Ops II event, Call of Duty Championship

Call of Duty fans looking to prove their mettle will get a chance this April as a contestant in a new competitive eSport event, The Call of Duty Championship, presented by Xbox. The tournament will take place in Hollywood, CA between April 5-7 and include $1 million in prizes. Thirty-two of the world’s top four-person teams will compete in head-to-head, live-streamed competitions in Black Ops II. Players interested in signing up can go to the official site, register for an Elite account, and enter their team.

Skylander fans will be able to snag the upcoming character Ninjini before its official launch, and a few discounted figures as well, on February 5 at an event at Toys “R” Us Times Square. The festivities are in honor of the annual International Toy Fair, and in celebration, the first to line up will receive a free Ninjini figure. Those who show up later will still be able to participate in giveaways and a day-long sale, which includes $25 off a Giants Starter Pack and a ‘buy 2, get 1 free’ for figures. Characters will be on hand to greet attendees, and playable demos will be setup at kiosks.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Revolution launches on Live for 360

Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Revolution, the first of four planned map packs, is now available for 360. Revolution includes a new weapon, a new mode, and five maps, four for standard multiplayer and one for Zombies. The standard maps feature a diverse array of locales, with Downhill set in a mountain resort, Mirage in a luxury villa overrun by sand, Hydro in a Pakistan-based hydroelectric dam’s facilities, and Grind in a skate park located in Venice Beach. The Zombies map, Die Rise, is set amongst collapsed skyscrapers in China. The new mode, Turned, is another addition for Zombies, and has players taking on the role of the undead. Lastly, a new multiplayer-only weapon has been added to the arsenal, the Peacekeeper submachine gun.

Skylanders franchise surpasses $500 million in sales

It appears that the Skylanders craze continues unabated as Activision has revealed that the franchise has surpassed $500 million in retail sales. The figure includes all games, accessory packs, and figures sold in the U.S., and according to Activision, this milestone has been reached “faster than any other kids’ gaming property.” The latest title in the series, Skylanders Giants, has earned more than $195 million in the U.S. and was the best selling kids’ game of last year.
