Atlus has released a sample of the staff book that’s being packed in with first-run copies of Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight. The book features a number of pieces created during production, such as concept sketches and character backgrounds, along with descriptions from lead designer Yuji Himukai. QR codes will also be included, which will unlock items to help beginners get started on their adventure.

Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley gets free Crop/Recipe and Flower DLC

Natsume has released two free downloadable packs for Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley. The Crop/Recipe and Flower packs will be free until May 19, at which point they will cost .99. As with the current crop of … er … crops, the new ones will have mutations so that players can further expand their stock. These follow two other free downloads, an outfit and hairstyle set as well as a builder’s set. The studio has even more add-ons planned, with more packs scheduled for release in mid-June.

Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight gets Classic Mode trailer

Atlus has released a new video showcasing Classic Mode from Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold. Classic follows the series’ traditional formula, with players capable of selecting their own party members, accessing all character-customization options, and tackling dungeons without cutscenes. Untold also features redesigned dungeon layouts and an optional orchestral score.

Opa-Opa returns! 3D Fantasy Zone II W blasts its way onto eShop

As mentioned earlier this week, Sega has expanded their 3D Classics Series 2 today with 3D Fantasy Zone II W. The remastered version of the 1987 shooter gives Opa-Opa and company a bump up from 8-bit to 16-bit-style graphics as well as adds stereoscopic 3D effects. New features were also added, including a Stage Select option to save and resume games in progress, the ability to adjust the difficulty, and the new Endless Game Mode, a condensed version of the game set in Link Loop Land.

A new Attack on Titan gameplay overview trailer has gone live. The brief bit of footage gives a quick glimpse at a variety of mechanics and modes, including the different moves possible using the omni-directional mobility gear, multiplayer, human and titan abilities, and character customization options.

A few free, as well as some for-pay, downloadable packs will be hitting Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker. All of the downloads are Free Battles, skirmishes that don’t affect the in-game clock that ticks down during story events and battles. The two freebies are Beginner’s Brawl and Lost Demon Rescue. The former will be up at launch and allow new players to level easily and bank some macca, as it won’t have scaling difficulty, while the latter will go live on May 12 and feature a recruitable demon that will join the party if it’s saved from two approaching enemy hordes. The for-pay battles run $0.99 each and switch things up by offering different scenarios, such as chasing down demons toting tons of macca. Full details for all are available below.

The Artdink-developed title tasks players with sustaining a transportation company through subsequent eras, starting with steam-powered trains, by managing the company’s finances and keeping customers happy. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for 3DS has proved to be the fastest-selling entry in the series for Western markets, having shipped one million units across retail and digital channels since February 13. To celebrate, Capcom will be releasing a free 3DS theme next month. The theme joins the company’s ongoing free post-release efforts, which includes monthly downloadable quests that go live on the first Friday of every month.

Atlus to bring PS Vita RPG Dungeon Travelers 2 stateside shortly

Atlus will be bringing a new role-playing game to the PS Vita this summer, Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & the Monster Seal. The PSTV-compatible dungeon crawler will follow Royal Library apprentice Fried as he finds and recruits a band of female adventurers to assist him in stopping a monster uprising in the outlands of Romulea. The game will feature a first-person perspective and turn-based combat as well as five classes, a sub-class system, 16 recruitable characters, and unique sub-events for all party members.
