Official Statement Left to avenge his Clan after a sinister force is
awakened in Tokyo, Hotsuma must confront demons from his past and defend his role
as Leader of the Oboro Clan. Drawing off the ancient traditions of Ninja magic,
Hotsuma uses wall running, shuriken attacks, and the coveted Akujiki Sword to
fight the deadly masked foes that stalk him. With the special Stealth Dash technique,
he creates ghost-like apparitions that confuse his enemies. He can then strike
with a lightning-quick "Tate" in which his blade moves so fast the victims
don't even realize they've been struck until they fall to their death.
General Information One
of the most beloved series' on the Genesis is ready to make its comeback, one
more befitting than the Sega Saturn release, that is. Joe Musashi, the legendary
hero of the series so far, has been replaced by Hotsuma. While some may be disappointed
by this turn of events, there's hope as the new release looks extremely fluid
and is moving the series in a new direction. Gone are the standard clothe robed
ninjas and bloodthirsty wolves, now mangled warriors and armor-clad canines are
ready to rip into our new hero.
With a Mcfarlane'esque scarf that flows behind our hero, a new sense of style
has been brought to the table. Most notably, Shinobi has moved to 3D, much like
Ninja Gaiden, a past favorite amongst gamers, and when these two go head-to-head,
it isn't going to be pretty. Hotsuma is bringing new forms of Ninja Magic, if
it's anything as cool as when Joe Musashi would thrust his sword into the ground
and blow up, I'm sold, as well as a more dark storyline. The new dimension won't
be taken for granted either as walls can not only be scaled, but ran along as
well, which is an essential element for any and all ninja-based videogames. That
isn't to say that the old stand-bys won't use as there will be plenty of katana
and shuriken-style pain to go around. If the old style is kept true, and the new
elements are integrated in a way that they are more of an asset rather than a
means of simply making the series look renewed, this could be a whole new era
for the series.
Time
will tell how Overworks treats this new incarnation of Sega's legendary ninja,
but from what they've shown, it's going to be one hell of an adventure. [
