Official Statement
In Far Cry, players find themselves abducted
and taken to a group of beautiful islands in Polynesia complete with sun, sea,
sand and... sub-machineguns! The game's unlikely hero soon finds himself fighting
for survival against highly trained and heavily armed opponents, while becoming
ever more embroiled in a deeper conspiracy. "With
Far Cry, Crytek will enter into a new dimension of the FPS Genre. With more tactical
elements and far advanced AI, Far Cry will give players a completely new feeling
of gameplay," said Faruk Yerli, chief marketing officer, Crytek.
General Information Utilizing
the new CryENGINE, Far Cry is hoping to make a name for itself with its
lush visuals and action-packed gameplay. Taking advantage of the engine's 'polybump'
technology, expansive and highly-detailed areas will be the standard, rather than
the exception. Developed by Crytek, Far
Cry is looking to take the first-person shooter into a whole new realm with
advanced A.I. and the inclusion of the ever-so-popular tactical elements. Taking
place in more tropical locales, the new engine looks to do more than just pump
out luscious screenshots by providing the rich detail needed to bring such environments
to life. It's this enriching atmosphere that Crytek is banking on to keep this
title from becoming a flash in the pan. While the graphics are being emphasized,
it will be more interesting to see how the tactical elements evolve and just how
well they are implemented. Set around 2020, there seems to be plenty
of room for the developers' imaginations to run wild. As our lone hero fights
his way across islands, he faces the evil menace of a man trying to play God.
Getting to the bottom of things won't be easy though; mercenaries, secret government
projects, and renegade scientists will all have their hands in what's going down.
Set to come out on PC, Xbox, PlayStation 2, and the GameCube, Far Cry should
entice action fans to lock and load in late 2003.
