GOG.com redesigned, adds section for DRM-free movies

GOG.com has announced that they have expanded their service to include DRM-free movies. Each film is priced at $5.99 and, at the moment, has something to do with gaming or Internet culture, though future additions will expand to include “TV and cinema classics from major studios.” Buyers can either stream or download the films, and as with the games, digital extras will be included with purchase. There are currently 20 documentaries available, two of which, Art of Playing and TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay Away From Keyboard, are being offered for free so that users can get a chance to experience the service.

Xbox One to get Forza Horizon 2 demo on September 16

Forza fans will get their chance to try the upcoming Forza Horizon 2 in a few weeks. Microsoft has announced that a demo for the open-word racer will launch on Live for Xbox One on September 16. The Playground Games-developed entry has been making the rounds recently, at E3, Gamescom, and soon at PAX, but this will be the first time gamers will get the chance to whip around southern Europe in the comfort of their homes. Gauntlet delayed until Sept. 23, pre-order bonus and PAX info detailed

Gauntlet, the upcoming reboot of the classic top-down action title, has been pushed back to September 23, according to Warner Bros. Interactive. The additional time is needed to ‘fine-tune’ the multiplayer component. To thank those who have pre-ordered for their patience, the studio has added a new in-game bonus, a special Wizard’s Robe made from dead imps that is known The Spawn of Kerthull (pictured below). For those attending PAX Prime 2014, a four-day tournament is being held with several notable personalities, including Jerry and Mike, that will be livestreamed on the official PAX Prime Twitch channel, the details of which can be found below.

Grab some friends and swords, Dragon Age: Inquisition gets co-op

A new co-op dungeon-crawler multiplayer mode has been announced for Dragon Age: Inquisition. Up to four players will be able to work with one another to complete special cooperative quests that are separate from the storyline. While in the dungeons, players will be able to salvage items, craft new armor and weapons, gather loot, and unlock up to 12 characters. Each of the characters will be from one of three classes: Mage, Rogue, and Warrior. PAX attendees will get a chance to try the multiplayer first hand at the Xbox Booths in North Hall, Booths 412, 422, and 432 on the fourth floor, from August 29 to September 1.

Metro Redux brings updated 2033, Last Light to console and PC

Metro returns today with the enhanced next-genified re-release Metro Redux. The $49.99 bundle includes Metro 2033, its sequel Metro: Last Light, and all DLC released for both titles for PS4 and Xbox One. Each is also available separately via download for $24.99. Both games have been enhanced with new animations, new voice overs, refined combat mechanics, and improved enemy AI. Ranger Mode is also available in both games as is the option to select two different play styles, the action-heavy Spartan mode and resource-restricted Survival mode.

Crown of the Old Iron King, the second part in Dark Soul II’s The Lost Crowns downloadable three-part mini-campaign, is now available. The add-on is available for 360, PC, and PS3, supplementing the original game with new enemies, bosses, gear, and locations. Unlike its grim subterranean predecessor, Crown of the Sunken King, Crown of the Old King takes place in the same type of lave-filled and ash-strewn environment as the foreboding Iron Keep from the original game. Rising Star Games has released Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition onto Games on Demand. The top-down shooter was originally released for Dreamcast and later re-released in its Deluxe Edition form for PS3 in stores and online via PSN, and now 360 gamers are getting their chance to try it for themselves for $19.99. The Deluxe Edition features dual-stick compatibility, improved textures and shadows, new upgrades, and two modes (Classic Arcade Mode and New Order Mode, which supports 16:9).

Reinforce the ramparts! Stronghold Crusader 2 delayed three weeks

Stronghold Crusader 2 is being bumped back from September 2 to September 23. Firefly Studios announced that the real-time strategy title will be given a few more weeks of development time after the closed beta highlighted that some additional time would be needed for “extra polish, optimization and bug fixes,” according to studio creative director Simon Bradbury. Veteran strategy fans will remember Crusader as the spin-off to the original Stronghold, a unique castle-defending strategy title released in 2001, which featured Frank and Saracen forces squaring off in a series of famous encounters, including the Siege of Antioch and the Siege of Jerusalem.

As Fairy Fencer F’s September ship date nears, NIS has released more screenshots from the upcoming turn-based role-playing game. The latest batch includes over a dozen shots of combat, with an emphasis on the special Fairize merging technique. The Compile Heart-developed title will feature players vying for the weapons of the gods, along with character art by Tsunako, characters based on concept art by Yoshitaka Amano, and music by Nobuo Uematsu.
