E3 2015: Microsoft – Backwards compatibility, HoloLens, Gears 4

Microsoft had a lot to show this year, including an on-stage demonstration of HoloLens, details about the upcoming elite controller, gameplay footage from Gears of War 4, and the debut of the Steam Early Access-like program Xbox Game Preview. There was also the biggest surprise of the event, the reveal that backwards compatibility is coming to the Xbox One. The latter is opening the system up to not only a massive back catalog of titles but also some nice bonuses, such as a free copy of Fallout 3 with Fallout 4 and free copies of Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 with Rainbow Six Siege.

E3 2015: Bethesda – Fallout 4, Doom, Dishonored 2, and more

Bethesda had a number of surprises at their E3 presentation. Not only is Fallout 4 coming out this November, less than four months away, but a new Fallout game is also out for iOS. Additionally, Dishonored Definitive Edition and Dishonored 2 were revealed, and more was shown from their upcoming free-to-play PC arena action title BattleCry and id’s latest efforts on Doom. The Bard’s Tale IV reaches $1.25 million Kickstarter funding goal

After recently announcing that the original trilogy has been added as a tier reward for Bard’s Tale IV’s ongoing Kickstarter campaign, inXile has sent word that they’ve met their funding goal. During the weekend, pledges surpassed the $1.25 million mark. Upcoming stretch goals include an enhanced companion NPC system and two more CNPCs at $1.3 million and an enhanced crafting system at $1.35 million.

PC and PS4 versions of Tales of Zestiria to launch alongside PS3

The Tales series will be expanding its reach into new territories when Tales of Zestiria is released later this year. Ahead of E3, Bandai Namco has sent word that the previously announced PS3 version will be released alongside two others, one for PC and the other for PS4. In Zestiria, players take control of Sorey, a young adventurer ordained to become The Shepard, who must save the land from becoming corrupt by stopping an evil force called Malevolence. New combat mechanics are also being introduced with the new cast, including side dashes and a fusing ability that allows for the creation new elemental artes.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – Supremacy to hit PSN, Steam in July

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s third download pack, Supremacy, will go live on PSN and Steam on July 2. The set includes four maps, each of which has been designed to take advantage of the Exo Grapple mechanic, and one being a revamped Highrise from Modern Warfare 2. The pack also features the next entry in the Exo Zombies storyline, an entry that just so happens to introduce one Bruce Campbell. Additional details can be found below.

Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition announced for PS4, Xbox One

Nordic is bringing death back. Darksiders 2 will be returning for the new console generation as an updated bundle rerelease, Deathinitive Edition. In addition to upgraded graphics, the set will include all downloadable content: Argul’s Tomb, Fletcher’s Crow Hammer, Maker Armor Set, The Abyssal Forge, The Demon Lord Belial, Death Rides, Angel of Death, Deadly Despair, Mace Maximus, Shadow of Death, Mortis Pack, Rusanov’s Axe, and Van Der Schmash Hammer. The added content is said to push playtime to over 30 hours. The port is being handled by Gunfire Games, “where nearly all staffers have already been working at Vigil Games and on Darksiders in the past.” For those wanting a new adventure, fear not, Nordic has a new Darksiders in the works.

Atlus to bring new 3DS RPG stateside this fall, The Legend of Legacy

Atlus has announced that they will be bringing over a new 16-bit-style role-playing game for 3DS, The Legend of Legacy. With art from SaGa series illustrator Tomomi Kobayashi, music from SaGa and Final Fantasy XIII alumnus Masashi Hamauzu, and writing from Chrono Trigger scribe Masato Kato, The Legend of Legacy follows seven adventurers who set out to explore the origins behind the mysterious island of Avalon. They each have a different reason to be on the island, but things go awry once they begin to see specters of the former inhabitants. Combat will use a turn-based system focused around a three-member party and mechanics that eschew classes in favor of formations. Atlus will also be balancing the gameplay for the Western release. And to up replayability, each character has their own storyline and ending.



Bard’s Tale IV backers of $20 or more to get Bard’s Tale trilogy

inXile is adding even more extras to the reward tiers for their ongoing Kickstarter campaign for The Bard’s Tale IV. Now, everyone who pledges at least $20 will receive the original trilogy for free: The Bard’s Tale, The Bard’s Tale II: The Destiny Knight, and The Bard’s Tale III: Thief of Fate. Emulated versions of the games will be sent to backers after the campaign has ended. The studio also announced that they have reached an agreement with Bard’s Tale III programmer Rebecca “Burger” Heineman to update the Apple IIGS versions of each to run on modern Windows and Mac PCs, which will also be free to backers.

The Red Solstice gets single-player campaign, final launch date

Ironward has announced that they have added a single-player campaign to The Red Solstice. The studio also revealed that the title will be leaving Early Access and launching fully on July 9. The campaign is in addition to the eight-player online co-op mode already implemented, and is estimated to last anywhere from seven to 30 hours, depending on the player’s skill level. Publisher Nkidu describes it as “part horror, part strategy, all heart-pounding action,” as players lead their squads against hordes of enemies. A new trailer has been released with in-game footage to showcase the tactical, squad-based gameplay that players will find when they reach Mars.
