Eugen has released new details about their upcoming real-time strategy title Act of Aggression. The Wargame creator detailed the game’s three playable factions: the high-tech, stealth-focused Cartel; the veteran US Army, who are limited to current technology but can level up in specific roles; and the Chimera, a UNO-funded force that can either specialize in specific roles or be reasonably skilled in all. The studio said it is designing Acts of Aggression to be more accessible than the Wargame series. In addition to more traditional RTS elements, such as resource harvesting and base building, the game will also emphasize maintaining supply lines, holding key locations for extra resources and gathering prisoners, and developing super weapons.

New King’s Quest gameplay trailer debuted at The Game Awards 2014

Sierra has released the first gameplay trailer from The Odd Gentlemen’s King’s Quest. The studio revealed the trailer at this year’s The Game Awards, which coincided with series creator Roberta Williams winning the Industry Icon Award alongside Sierra co-founder Ken Williams. The upcoming reimagining adds new chapters to the original games but are independent of them while keeping the same main characters and storylines from the earlier entries.

Total War: Rome II – Wrath of Sparta to add Peloponnesian War

The nearly three-decade-long Peloponnesian War is making its way into Total War: Rome II later this month in Wrath of Sparta. The downloadable campaign will go live on December 16 and cover the earliest period of any Total War title to date over a 78-region map that focuses on Greece, the Greek islands, and the Ionian coast. Players will have access to new tech trees, land- and sea-based units, wonders, and heroes as they wage war as Athens, Boeotian League, Corinth, or Sparta.

Red Faction: Guerrilla gets new modes, drops GfWL in Steam Edition

Nordic Games has updated the PC version of Red Faction: Guerrilla. Now available on Steam, the new version has the Game for Windows Live elements stripped out and replaced with Steam extras, including trading cards, matchmaking and multiplayer through Steamworks, leaderboard support, and achievements (base game and DLC), plus voice chat and savegame migration from the GfWL edition. Other additions and improvements include support for offline mode, host migration functionality, Behemoth Mode, six maps for Wrecking Crew, join-in-progress for multiplayer, and stability improvements. Sony is celebrating the PlayStation’s vicennalia with a special 500 GB limited edition PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition costs $499 and is limited to 12,300 units worldwide. Sporting a color scheme reminiscent of the original PlayStation, the 20th Anniversary Edition is being released to celebrate the first model’s December 3, 1994, Japanese launch. All of the accessories, including a controller and PlayStation Camera, as well as the box will sport the original gray color. North American gamers can pre-order a unit from sony.store.com on Saturday, December 6. The full details on when the pre-order link will go live will be revealed at 10:00 a.m. (PST)/noon (CST) during the PlayStation Experience keynote presentation, which will be streamed on Sony’s official Twitch channel.

Atlus and Spike Chunsoft team up for Etrian Mystery Dungeon for 3DS

Etrian Odyssey is once again finding itself paired with another role-playing game, this time Spike Chunsoft’s Mystery Dungeon. Announced today for 3DS, Etrian Mystery Dungeon will feature Etrian Odyssey’s character-leveling system and the random-heavy design and third-person, fixed-perspective view of Mystery Dungeon. Players will begin their journey as a Landsknecht, but they will eventually gain access to 10 different classes. Combat will be turn based and navigation will utilize a hub system, with players returning to and stocking up in the village of Aslarga before setting out for the nearby randomly generated dungeons.

The Sassanids appear in new trailer for Total War: Attila

A new trailer for Total War: Attila highlights Rome’s formidable Eastern foe, the Sassanid Empire. New features were also revealed. To highlight the other dangers of the times, players will have to contend with mutinous generals who can convince worried characters to mutiny, triggering a civil war, and limited supplies. A new mechanic, decimation, will help to bring some relief as the harsh punishment temporarily stamps out resistance in the ranks.
