Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster heading to PS4 this May

Square Enix has announced that they will be bringing out last year’s Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for PS4 on May 12. In addition to the two previously Japanese-only extras added to the original collection, the Final Fantasy X: Eternal Calm cinematic and Final Fantasy X-2: Last Mission playable mission, the game will also feature cross-save support with the PS3 and PS Vita versions, support for remote play, and the ability to switch between the original soundtrack and the remastered version. A physical pre-order bonus was also revealed, a calendar featuring artwork by Yoshitaka Amano.

TSI developing multi-game character export/import system Gateway

TSI is looking to link role-playing games together with a new character import/export system dubbed Gateway. The studio plans on rolling it out with their next title, Seven Dragon Saga, with features that will allow for the importing and exporting of player-created characters between it and games from other developers. The high fantasy, party-based adventure is a digital version of a pen-and-paper game created by SSI veterans Keith Brors and David Shelley. So far, Harebrained Schemes and inXile have announced their support for the initiative. Long-time fans of the genre will recall a similar system used in previous role-playing games, such as Bard’s Tale, Ultima, and Wizardry.

New Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin video debuts Forlorn NPC

A new gameplay trailer has gone live for Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. The latest footage showcases the new NPC invader, the Forlorn. The video runs a little over three minutes and shows what players have come to expect from Dark Souls II: pain. Beset by regular enemies, a player desperately tries to get the upper hand as the Forlorn closes in and proceeds to harass them throughout the encounter.

LA Cops hitting the virtual streets on March 13 for PC, Xbox One

Team17 has released a new trailer for Modern Dream’s upcoming ‘70s-style action title, LA Cops. A release date was also announced, with PC and Xbox One gamers set to start kicking down doors and taking down the dealers on March 13. After choosing a pair of officers from six different candidates, players must guide them through 13 levels and make sure the two watch each other’s back while they take down gun-toting baddies. Stay frosty out there, you loose cannons.

Rockstar releases 15 new screens from Grand Theft Auto V for PC

Rockstar has released over a dozen new screenshots from the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V. The studio also announced another digital pre-order bonus, with PC gamers getting the chance to score $300,000 of in-game cash for Grand Theft Auto Online by ordering the digital version from Rockstar Warehouse and other outlets. For those who have already pre-ordered either the physical or digital version, that is in addition to the $1.2 million already on offer.

Hexer conjures up new trailer, screens from Etrian Mystery Dungeon

Atlus comes through with another trailer and batch of screenshots for Etrian Mystery Dungeon, this time for the Hexer. The curse-casting class can debuff enemies, bind limbs, and poison. As long as they’re tucked away safely in the back row, they can curse until their little dark heart is content (or they run out of mana). Nordic Games to assist in physical distribution of Shadowrun Online

Nordic Games will be working with Cliffhanger Productions to distribute Shadowrun Online, including a physical boxed version. The tactical team-based role-playing game is currently available through Steam Early Access. In the game, players live in a cyberpunk-infused 2076, after the destruction of Boston by a dragon whose escape led to the poisoning of its inhabitants, turning them into killers. Elves, Dwarves, and other mythical races live in this new world, where corporations rule the land. The final version of the game will feature 50-plus enemies, hacking, over 60 combat and noncombat skills, and five races.

Shooter roguelike Sublevel Zero announced for PC

Mastertronic has sent word that they will be publishing Sigtrap’s shooter Sublevel Zero this summer for Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. The first-person, six-degrees-of-freedom shooter will feature procedurally generated levels, crafting, and permadeath. There are also plans to support the Oculus Rift. Ammo will be scarce, necessitating item crafting, and players will have to navigate levels filled with enemies and puzzles. The description of a roguelike Descent seems pretty apt. A trailer and screenshots have also been released.

Fable Legends to be free-to-play for Xbox One, Windows 10 PC

Lionhead’s Fable Legends will be a free-to-play release for Xbox One (Xbox Live Gold required) and Windows 10 PC, according to Microsoft. The game will feature regular rotation of heroes (four-character sets, with saved stats and heroes permanently attainable through progression or by purchase), earnable in-game silver but purchasable gold, the ability to lay traps, and the option of purchasing the allegiance of creatures. A FAQ was posted with additional details, and for the especially curious, a video with the game’s director, David Eckelberry, explains the development team’s design philosophy.

Spring Fever PlayStation Store Event offers discounts, new games

Sony has announced their plans for this year’s Spring Fever PlayStation Store event. The eight-week-long promo will feature additional discounts for PS Plus members and general discounts for everyone. While some of the bigger franchises will be included in the sale, such as Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, and God of War, the new titles, set to launch one per week, are especially interesting. Some of the highlights are the PS4 version of Jamestown+, with four-player support, and several cross-buy titles, including Helldivers, Metal Slug 3, and Shovel Knight.
