Kasedo to publish new strategy title, Mechs & Mercs: Black Talons

Kasedo Games has announced a new mech-themed real-time strategy title, Mechs & Mercs: Black Talons. As commander of the Black Talons mercenary outfit, players must team up with the defeated Genai forces in order to escape their conquered planet by breaking the blockade set up by the victorious Tzanar Union. The campaign will unfold to include up to five worlds, and progress is determined by how much the player affects a local system’s balance of power and their relations with other factions. Squads will be persistent and customizable, made up of specialized units with their own abilities, skill trees, and unique weapons. The Black Talons’ base will also be customizable with facilities to boost squad skills and numbers as well as bombard enemy units.

Dominions 4 patch adds new race, bug fixes, and gameplay tweaks

As if Dominions 4 wasn’t already packed to the point of bursting, developer Illwinter has added a new race to the 70-plus already in the game. The latest addition, the Ragha, are a dark race capable of adapting to hot and cold climates, with different units being available depending on which type of environment they’re recruited in. The update also features several fixes and tweaks, such as non-artifact items now capable of being unique, poison from poison daggers now ignoring etherealness, and a new population cap of 300,000. NIS has released another set of screenshots from their upcoming investigative visual novel Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. A new cast of characters are being tasked with finding out who amongst them is a murderer before they themselves are found—going by the first game—beat, burned, stabbed, or impaled. The latest shots show some of the conversations that players will be having with their ‘ultimate’ classmates.

EA to kick off summer-long Battlefest for Battlefield 4 this weekend

EA will be holding a summer-long event for Battlefield 4, Battlefest. The festivities will begin this week with a double XP weekend from July 12-13 and the start of the Battleshot screenshot contest. Battleshot will run daily until August 13, with gamers getting the chance to win an AMD graphics card, $50 gift card to the Dice Store, and a Battlefield 4 Premium membership by submitting screenshots based on different themes. Community Missions, beginning on July 15, will reward all players with free gold Battlepacks when community challenges are met. Free camo unlocks will take place each week as well. A month-long stunt video competition is also being held, with the community picking the top three from Dice’s favorite 12 to win special prize packages.

And another pick-up for Aksys. Following the announcement that they will be publishing the visual novel Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters, the studio sent word that they will also be publishing the PS3 fighter Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late. Co-developed by French Bread and Arc System Works, Under Night will feature 16 characters, six game modes, including Arcade, Score Attack, and Survival, as well as online multiplayer. Fighting fans will have to wait a bit before they can get their hands on it, though, as it isn’t set for release until 2015.

Ace Team details Abyss Odyssey features in new gameplay video

A new overview trailer has been released for Atlus’ upcoming beat ‘em up Abyss Odyssey. Developer Ace Team goes over many of the game’s features throughout the seven-minute-plus video, including the challenge rooms, ability to steal souls, and procedurally generated areas as well as multiplayer’s local and online co-op options.

Aksys to bring Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters to North America

Aksys took some time out of Anime Expo 2014 to reveal that they’ve secured the North American publishing rights to Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters. The visual novel follows a transfer student to Kurenai High School who joins two ghost hunters after they save him from an evil spirit he encounters while wandering the campus. The game is said to have “a strategic role-playing element” that will involve players outsmarting ghosts by clever use of special ghost-hunting items. A release date was not announced.

Destiny beta dated, Ghost and Limited editions detailed

Activision has released new details about the upcoming Destiny beta as well as three premium versions. Gamers who pre-order the game will be able to enter the beta at 10:00 a.m. (PDT) on July 17 for the PS3 and PS4 versions and at 10:00 a.m. (PDT) on July 23 for Xbox 360 and One versions. A PSN subscription is required to access some features, and Live Gold is required for all features. Maintenance will take place between beginning on July 21-22 and continue until July 27 across all platforms, at which point the beta will go back online. Three special editions were also announced and have been detailed below: Ghost Edition ($149.99), Limited Edition ($99.99), and Digital Guardian Edition ($89.99). The first two DLC packs, Expansion I and II, have been priced at $19.99 and the season pass at $34.99.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, the iOS re-release of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, has hit the App Store. The $14.99 action role-playing game is based around the series’ traditional hunting-and-crafting system, with players taking down beasts of all sizes in order to harvest their hide and bone. The iOS version features higher resolution graphics, supporting up to 2048×1536 on iPad, optimized touch-screen controls, a more responsive camera, four-player co-op support over WiFi, and support for MFi controllers.
