Official Statement Sonic The Hedgehog
will be returning to the Nintendo GameCube in the U.S. this November in "Sonic
Mega Collection." Hot on the heels of the blockbuster "Sonic Adventure
2 Battle," which marked Sonic's historic debut on a non-SEGA system, "Sonic
Mega Collection" will feature *seven classic titles from the SEGA Genesis.
General Information SEGA
releasing titles for a Nintendo console won't cease to amaze me for a good long
while, but 16-bit Sonic? That's crazy! Sure, Sonic Adventure 2 made its way to
Nintendo's little powerhouse, but that was a newer title, that wasn't a soldier
in the 16-bit wars like the classic Sonic titles were. Much
like the lesser known Sonic Jam on the Sega Saturn, this is a collection of Sonic
titles that run the gamut of his gaming career. While not set in stone, Sonic
Mega Collection is described as having the 7 titles below: Sonic
The Hedgehog Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Sonic &
Knuckles" Sonic 3D Blast" Sonic The Hedgehog Spinball Dr.
Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine - These are subject to change Oddly
absent from the list is the Sega CD Sonic, known for its added features and memorable
soundtrack, while Sonic 3D Blast found its way into fortune. Spinball is a nice
addition as it was a novelty that many gamers seemed to skip on and 3D Blast was
also an interesting choice as its release during the Saturn's reign mean very
few people got to give it a shot. Overall, some nice choices, while the Sega CD
version would have been nice, the chance of trying out 3D Blast and Spinball is
a big plus any day. If a new Mario and
Zelda compilation would come out, it would make the GameCube the console for nostalgic
gamers. Even though neither of the later has been discussed, a Sonic collection
is a great start and one that I hope others follow on. "SEGA does what Nintendon't"
- classy. [
