Former NIS America staff form new publisher, acttil
Three NIS America alumni have formed a new publishing company, acttil. The studio, founded by Jack Niida, Hiroko Kanazashi, and Nao Miyazawa, will offer an array of services to both established and indie studios, including localization, package and advertisement design, editing, monetization strategy development, and sales plan development. At the moment, acttil plans to deliver titles for PC, current and next-gen consoles, mobile platforms, the web, and eReaders.

Nordic Games acquires Darksiders, Red Faction, Titan Quest, more
Nordic Games snatched up some properties from the recent THQ auction. The Painkiller HD publisher acquired 150-plus SKUs for 4.9 million across all major consoles and PC. Darksiders, Frontlines, Full Spectrum Warrior, Juiced, MX vs. ATV, Red Faction, Stuntman, Supreme Commander, and Titan Quest are slated to join the JoWood and Dreamcatcher IPs already in Nordic’s stable. Don’t expect any major moves just yet, as Lars Wingefors, owner and CEO of Nordic Games, stated that they will not “dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles” in regards to how to approach new installments from the acquired IPs.

Skylanders Giants event taking place Feb. 5 at flagship Toys “R” Us
Skylander fans will be able to snag the upcoming character Ninjini before its official launch, and a few discounted figures as well, on February 5 at an event at Toys “R” Us Times Square. The festivities are in honor of the annual International Toy Fair, and in celebration, the first to line up will receive a free Ninjini figure. Those who show up later will still be able to participate in giveaways and a day-long sale, which includes $25 off a Giants Starter Pack and a ‘buy 2, get 1 free’ for figures. Characters will be on hand to greet attendees, and playable demos will be setup at kiosks.

Skylanders franchise surpasses $500 million in sales
It appears that the Skylanders craze continues unabated as Activision has revealed that the franchise has surpassed $500 million in retail sales. The figure includes all games, accessory packs, and figures sold in the U.S., and according to Activision, this milestone has been reached “faster than any other kids’ gaming property.” The latest title in the series, Skylanders Giants, has earned more than $195 million in the U.S. and was the best selling kids’ game of last year.

Transformers Prime now available for 3DS, DS, and Wii
Transformers fans looking for a new adventure after Fall of Cybertron will be able to explore a new part of the universe today with the launch of Transformers Prime. Based off the television show, Prime is available only on Nintendo consoles and features Optimus Prime and his fellow Autobots in a battle against Megatron and the Decepticons for control of Thunderwing. Battles take place in robot form and alt mode with melee combat and driving sequences.

New dates announced for Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses Tour
Nintendo has announced 11 new dates for the Eímear Noone-conducted The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses Tour. Running from September 15 to December 14, the new shows will play a different venue each performance and include stops in Chicago, Dallas, New York, San Antonio, and Toronto. The full schedule is below, but for those in New York City, a special event will run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, September 14 at Nintendo World in Rockefeller Plaza that will include an Ocarina workshop, a mini-concert featuring new arrangements, and a meet-and-greet event with David Ramos and other musicians.

The Last Story sets out on grand adventure to the lands of retailia
XSeed is seeing Wii owners off on one more quest before the release of the Wii U with the launch of their latest RPG, The Last Story. Co-developed by Mistwalker and Nintendo, the action-centric adventure follows a band of mercenaries making their way on the island of Lazulis, and on the aspirations of protagonist Zael in leaving his old rough-and-tumble life behind in the hopes of becoming a knight.

The Amazing Spider-Man slings onto store shelves
Beenox is following up last year’s Spider-Man: Edge of Time today with The Amazing Spider-Man. Serving as an epilog to the upcoming film, the Seamus Fahey-penned story follows the webcrawler’s exploits after the films ends as he faces off against Scorpion, Rhino, Black Cat, and other famous reimagined villains. Open-world gameplay and Bruce Campbell return to the series, while new powers, including Web Rush, are introduced into the universe.

Lego The Lord of the Rings treking to Mount Retail later this year
You shall pass! Warner Bros. has announced TT Games’ next Lego adventure, Lego The Lord of the Rings. Based on the film trilogy, Lord of the Rings is scheduled to ship this fall for the 360, 3DS, DS, PC, PS3, PS Vita, and Wii. The family-friendly quest will task gamers with solving riddles and battling blocky foes on their way to Mount Doom. Players will get to travel through the Misty Mountains, Mines of Moria, encountering Orcs, Uruk-hai, and the Balrog.
