Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, Re-Elect announced for console, PC

During their panel at PAX Prime, Volition took the opportunity to announce two new Saints Row projects, Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell and Saints Row: Re-Elect. Both titles were available at Deep Silver’s booth for attendees to try out, and both will be available on January 27. Gat Out of Hell is a standalone expansion for Saints Row IV that will pit players, as either Johnny Gat or Kinzie Kensington, against the forces of hell in a quest to save the soul of the gang’s leader. In addition to a musical number, players can also look forward to fighting historical figures as well as old enemies and a few old friends. Re-Elected is an updated version of Saints Row IV for PS4 and Xbox One.

Grab some friends and swords, Dragon Age: Inquisition gets co-op

A new co-op dungeon-crawler multiplayer mode has been announced for Dragon Age: Inquisition. Up to four players will be able to work with one another to complete special cooperative quests that are separate from the storyline. While in the dungeons, players will be able to salvage items, craft new armor and weapons, gather loot, and unlock up to 12 characters. Each of the characters will be from one of three classes: Mage, Rogue, and Warrior. PAX attendees will get a chance to try the multiplayer first hand at the Xbox Booths in North Hall, Booths 412, 422, and 432 on the fourth floor, from August 29 to September 1.

Metro Redux brings updated 2033, Last Light to console and PC

Metro returns today with the enhanced next-genified re-release Metro Redux. The $49.99 bundle includes Metro 2033, its sequel Metro: Last Light, and all DLC released for both titles for PS4 and Xbox One. Each is also available separately via download for $24.99. Both games have been enhanced with new animations, new voice overs, refined combat mechanics, and improved enemy AI. Ranger Mode is also available in both games as is the option to select two different play styles, the action-heavy Spartan mode and resource-restricted Survival mode.

Battle wages across Venus and Mars in new Destiny videos

A new gameplay trailer, titled Venus, has been released for Destiny. At around a minute and a half, the footage features a trio exploring and battling around the overgrown surface and underground compounds as well as through ruined cities. A similarly themed trailer for Mars has also been posted below, which follows another group making their way around the red planet. And in case you missed it, a multiplayer trailer was released last week.

Gollum revealed in new Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor screens

Some new screenshots of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor have been released from its latest showing at gamescom. Two of the four shots mark the game’s debut appearance of everyone’s favorite misunderstood, single-minded miscreant, Gollum. Developer Monolith also released the achievement/trophy list, for those who can’t get enough virtual accolades.

Three DLC packs, Season Pass announced for The Evil Within

Bethesda has detailed The Evil Within’s post-launch DLC packs and Season Pass. The Shinji Mikami-helmed survival horror title will be supplemented with three download packs, and the pass to access them all will run $19.99. The first pack scheduled to launch, The Keeper (aka Boxman), is a collection of mission-based maps. The last two will make up a single side story featuring Sebastian’s partner, Juli Kidman, fleshing out the plot while adding new areas and new enemies.

Destiny gets new trailer, now GameStop’s most pre-ordered new IP

Bungie has announced that Destiny has broken GameStop’s record for the most pre-orders of a new property. This follows the previous update that over 4.5 million unique players took part in trying out the game during its recent open-beta phase. Coinciding with the news is the release of a new multiplayer trailer, which is also being used to celebrate the commencement of gamescom 2014 in Cologne, Germany.

PlayStation 4 to get new features soon, passes 10-million-sold mark

Sony has revealed that over 10 million PlayStation 4s have been sold as of August 10. The press release also stated that the PS4’s brisk sales, at less than nine months on the market, represent “the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history,” while software sales topped more than 30 million. Also noted were the upcoming releases of several previously announced features, including the ability to upload directly to YouTube and remotely take over a friend’s controller via Share Play.

Dontnod returns with time-traveling adventure Life is Strange

Remember Me developer Dontnod is back with a new episodic adventure, Life is Strange. Square Enix will be publishing the title, set to launch for 360, PC, PS3, PS4, and Xbox One, which follows student Max Caulfield and the mystery behind the disappearance of another student, Rachel Amber. After returning to her hometown of Arcadia Bay, Oregon for the first time in five years, Max reunites with her old friend Chloe and sets out with her to look into what happened to Rachel. To her surprise, Max quickly discovers that she has the power to rewind time. The narrative-driven adventure will react to the player’s choices, malleable as they are with the time-warping powers, which will affect how the story unfolds from one episode to the other.

Dead Island 2 gamescom demo footage, screenshots released

Deep Silver has released a new gameplay trailer and new screens from Yager’s Dead Island 2. Picking up after Dead Island and the upcoming Escape Dead Island, players will find themselves trying to survive in Los Angeles while its under quarantine by the military. Up to eight players can fight, cooperate, or ignore one another as they make their way through the undead hordes. The new media is being released in anticipation of this year’s gamescom in Germany, where attendees will be able to get some hands-on time at Deep Silver’s booth in Hall 9.1, B11/C10.
