Fallout Shelter tops App Store charts, played 70 million times daily

Bethesda has announced that Fallout Shelter, the mobile strategy and management sim that tasks players with running a Vault, has hit two milestones: “the top downloaded game in 48 countries and the top downloaded app of any kind in 25 countries.” Released during E3, Fallout Shelter toppled Candy Crush as the third top-grossing app in the US within two days of launch, and it remains the most-downloaded free game on the App Store. And to top off the stats, the release also noted that the app has been played 70 million times daily since release.

E3 2015: Bethesda – Fallout 4, Doom, Dishonored 2, and more

Bethesda had a number of surprises at their E3 presentation. Not only is Fallout 4 coming out this November, less than four months away, but a new Fallout game is also out for iOS. Additionally, Dishonored Definitive Edition and Dishonored 2 were revealed, and more was shown from their upcoming free-to-play PC arena action title BattleCry and id’s latest efforts on Doom. Halo: Spartan Strike brings back twin-stick action, out for mobile, PC

A new Halo twin-stick shooter has gone live for mobile devices and PC, Halo: Spartan Strike. The $5.99 download-only release is set in New Mombasa during the events of Halo 2. Players take on the role of a Spartan in an ONI simulation, guiding UNSC troops through 30 missions set throughout cities and jungles. Throughout the missions, soldiers gain access to new abilities, weapons, and vehicles. Windows 8 versions also include support for weekly challenges, leaderboards, and Achievements with accompanying emblems, avatars, and nameplates.

Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron coming to Zen’s pinball lines

Zen Studios is continuing their line of Marvel-themed tables with the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The table will be available across Zen’s titles on PC, console, and mobile platforms (Zen Pinball 2, Pinball FX2, and Marvel Pinball) on April 21. The table will have modes for each member of the team, including Captain America and Thor, with a battle between Iron Man and Ultron and a first-person shooting mini-game for Hawkeye.

Pike & Shot: Tercio to Salvo goes live, adds new units, scenarios

The first expansion for Pike & Shot, Tercio to Salvo, has gone live for iOS (iPad) and Windows PC. The add-on allows players to try their hand at 10 new historical scenarios that span from the 16th to early 17th centuries. The new battles bring with them 49 new army lists and the debut of two nations, Dutch Republic and Russia. Four terrain types can also now be selected for skirmishes: agricultural, hilly, mountainous, or wooded. Matrix and Slitherine are currently offering the PC version at 50% off for a limited-time launch promo as well as a free Steam key to players who bought a copy of the PC version from Matrix Games or Slitherine’s store.

PlayStation 4 Yukimura update to add features, accessibility options

Sony has announced that they are prepping the next update for PS4. Update version 2.50, codenamed Yukimura, is scheduled to go live on March 26 and is set to add a number of features. Some of the additions include Suspend/Resume, allowing players to pause their game by putting the system into Rest Mode and resuming by pressing the PlayStation button on the controller; the ability to back-up data onto an external USB drive, such as game saves, settings, screenshots, patches, and video clips; and improved accessibility options, with functions to zoom, and invert colors along with enlarged text and text-to-speech for the interface, apps, and browser. The new visibility options will not apply to games or third-party apps, though they will be added to PS Vita and mobile devices via PS App in their own respective updates whenever Yukimura is released.

Nintendo to get into mobile market, partners with DeNA

It seems as though Nintendo will be getting into the ‘smart devices’ market. According to a recent announcement, Nintendo and DeNA have formed an alliance that will see the two assisting one another in upcoming ventures, with Nintendo acquiring 10% of DeNA and DeNA 1.24% of Nintendo. The partnership will involve “leveraging the strength of Nintendo’s intellectual property (IP) and game development skills in combination with DeNA’s world-class expertise in mobile games, both companies will develop and operate new game apps based on Nintendo’s IP, including its iconic game characters, for smart devices.” The plans are open for “all Nintendo IP,” and a membership service is also slated to launch next fall, which will span 3DS, PC, Wii U, and smart devices.

Shiro’s mini-RPG Evoland ventures onto Android and iOS

Shiro Games has ported its referential epoch-spanning role-playing game Evoland to Android and iOS. Originally released for PC, the game follows a young adventurer through the various ages of role-playing and adventure games as he levels up from the 8-bit era to the 32-bit. Gameplay also changes, with exploration and combat shifting from the over-the-top, on-the-spot action of The Legend of Zelda to an overhead system with bitmap backgrounds and turn-based combat as in Final Fantasy 7.

The Heroes of Might & Magic series returns today in Ubisoft’s Heroes of Might & Magic III – HD Edition for Android and iOS tables as well as Windows PC. The DotEmu-developed entry features updated graphics, seven campaign scenarios, 48 skirmish maps, and support for local multiplayer. The PC version also allows access to a map editor and a Steam lobby.

Geralt goes MOBA, The Witcher Battle Arena out now for Android, iOS

Geralt of Rivia is getting in some practice before setting out in The Witcher 3 later this year in a new multiplayer online battle arena title for Android and iOS, The Witcher Battle Arena. As the leader of a three-hero party, players must guide their forces against another party in a battle to take and hold conquest points. The base game includes two maps, Nilfgaardian Arena and the Korath Desert, and nine customizable heroes from the Witcher series, including Geralt, Iorveth, and Philippa Eilhart. A “fair, player-friendly monetization system” is also in place, but all purchasable items, such as character gear and modes, can also be unlocked through gameplay.
