QuakeCon 2012 to frag it down in Dallas this August
Bethesda and id have announced that their annual celebration of fragging and adventuring will kick off on August 2 when QuakeCon 2012 begins its four-day party. North America’s largest BYOC (Bring-Your-Own-Computer) LAN event will take place at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas, which will be having a special room rate of $154 per night for attendees (1-800- Hiltons or 1-800-445-8667). QuakeCon itself is free to attend, as always.

Minecraft – Live Arcade trailer, screens revealed at MineCon
The Xbox 360 Live Arcade version of Minecraft was debuted today at MineCon, the only Mojang-sanctioned convention for the popular world-builder. Over 5,000 players have gathered to enjoy a weekend of creepers and crafting, and the first round of media from the show has been released. While not quite as nice as the attendees’ hands-on time, I think a batch of screenshots and a trailer isn’t too bad of a way to kick off the weekend.

Minecraft to make Xbox 360 debut, launch for PC at MineCon
MineCon, the convention for all things Minecraft, is almost upon the prime blocks of Las Vegas. Not only will MineCon mark the official launch of the PC version, but it was also announced that the Xbox 360 version will be on hand and playable. The console version isn’t set to launch on Live Arcade until next spring.

Quantum Conundrum announced, set to debut at PAX
Square Enix has announced a new first-person platform-puzzler from Airtight Games and Portal co-creator, Quantum Conundrum. The download-only release is scheduled to launch early next year for the 360, PC, and PS3. PAX attendees will be able to check out the game as well as a panel with the developers on Saturday, August 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pegasus Room.

Dead Rising 2 Off The Record – Sandbox Mode announced, to debut at PAX
Dead Rising 2 Off The Record is set to send PAX attendees’ hearts all aflutter with the debut of a new Sandbox Mode. Capcom Vancouver has heard the cries of zombie-slayers around the world and will now allow them unrestricted access to the casinos, restaurants, malls, and new Uranus Zone of Fortune City to bash, behead, shoot, and slam as many undead as possible without a time limit. Challenges will also be available, ranging from collection-style trials to vehicle-based ones, that will offer extra cash.

2K Games to invade PAX: Borderlands 2, The Darkness II, and Xcom
2K Games has announced their PAX Prime 2011 line-up. In addition to a playable demo of and panel on The Darkness II, there will also be a playable demo and presentation of Xcom as well as a panel and official unveiling of Borderlands 2.

Orcs Must Die! to be playable at PAX, plus in-game extras and more
Robot Entertainment has sent word that their upcoming action-strategy title Orcs Must Die! will be playable at PAX. Both the 360 and PC versions will be set up at the company’s booth, 940, for the duration of the show, from August 26 to 28. As a bonus, attendees who visit the booth and sign up for their forums will earn a Steam code for a free War Mage costume based on Penny Arcade’s Cardboard Tube Samurai character. Other goodies will also be available, including shirts, hats, buttons, and for the first 200 to try the game, a prequel comic book.

QuakeCon 2011 Steam and App Store sales kick off
Some celebratory QuakeCon 2011 sales have hit Steam and the Apple App store today, with discounts on both id and Bethesda titles. In addition to Steam’s offerings, with the full list found here, including a daily deal featuring a Doom & Quake Complete Pack with Quake IV, many of id’s mobile titles are also on sale. There are some solid deals to be had, including Doom Classic for $1.99 (down from $6.99) and Doom II RPG for $.99 (down from $3.99) on the App Store. Additional details can be found below.

Batman: Arkham City gets a touch of Castle with Stana Katic
Warner Bros. made a small Batman: Arkham City announcement at Comic-Con this week. Stana Katic from ABC’s Castle has signed on to voice the character of Talia al Ghul. If you don’t know of Talia, then you might know her father, the classic villain (and one of the best on the animated series) Ra’s al Ghul.

John Carmack’s Annual Keynote kicking off QuakeCon 2011 has already been announced, as have a number of other speakers and presenters. Today Bethesda and id have released the entire line-up for the upcoming event, which includes information on all the panels and panelists, such as Kevin Cloud (id), Abbie Heppe (Respawn), Julien Roby (Arkane), and Ryan Schneider (Insomniac).
