PSX 2016 – Activision: Crash Bandicoot Trilogy, Destiny The Dawning

Crash is set to return next year in Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. The bundle will feature remasters of the first three titles: Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped. Vicarious Visions is rebuilding each game from the ground up, adding new lighting, animations, environments, and cutscenes. The audio is also being updated with a revamped soundtrack and new dialogue recorded with some of the original actors. The three will also support a unified save system, a similar checkpoint system, and analog stick functionality. Lastly, Bungie will kick off a three-week-long event for Destiny: Rise of Iron, The Dawning, on December 13. The winter festivities will include new Quests, Bounties, and customization items, plus an additional Record Book and game mode, Strike Scoring. Sparrow Racing League will also return, complete with two new tracks, one on Earth and the other on Mercury.

PSX 2016: DotEmu – Wonder Boy, Windjammers, and Ys Origin

DotEmu is embracing the past for their upcoming releases. First up is Lizardcube’s upcoming Wonder Boy title, Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, which received its second developer diary. The video highlights the re-imagined soundtrack from the Wonder Boy III remake. They also announced two new PS4 and PS Vita titles for early 2017: Ys Origin and Windjammers. Ys Origins will release on February 21, offering players a chance to play the prequel on console, taking place 700 years before Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished. Some new, undetailed features are also being included, with the title itself being ported by DotEmu. The Neo Geo classic Windjammers is also returning. The futuristic sports title pits two players against one another as they attempt to fling a disc into their opponent’s net by using powers and ricochet shots. It will support five game modes, including online versus (do I hear an angelic choir?), along with leaderboards and trophies.

E3 2016 – Sony: Last Guardian, God of War, Resident Evil 7 biohazard

New trailers, screens for The Last Guardian, God of War, Resident Evil 7 biohazard, and Detroit Become Human? Check, all the way down. Plus footage from a slew of other titles, including Spider-Man, Hawken, Anima: Gate of Memories, Horizon Zero Dawn, and 7 Days to Die. Not too much on the PS Vita, unfortunately. On the flip side, more was revealed about PS VR. The virtual reality headset is dated for October 13 and will retail for $399.99. Enjoy!

E3 2016 – Microsoft: Xbox One 2, Scorpio, Forza Horizon, Dead Rising

Microsoft had plenty to show at their conference, including gameplay reveals of Rare’s Pirate-themed multiplayer-entric Sea of Thieves and the co-op-friendly Forza Horizon 3. Other trailers posted below include announcement videos for Dead Rising 4, State of Decay 2, and We Happy Few, plus more from Scalebound, ReCore, and others. Phantom Dust is still a go, too (woo!). Play Anywhere was prominent, which further integrates Xbox One and Windows 10 by offering cross-buy support and same-day release for MS-published titles. The biggest reveals were the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio. The Xbox One S will be 40 percent smaller, come in white, have an internal power supply, support 4K Ultra HD for Blu-rays and streaming content, support High Dynamic Range (HDR) for games, and come with an updated controller. Kinect adapters will be required, but they will be free from Microsoft. The systems will roll out August 2016 for $299 (500 GB), $349 (1 TB), and $399 (limited launch edition 2 TB). Project Scorpio will be arriving holiday 2017, and is being described as “the most powerful console ever created” with support for 4K gaming and VR thanks to its “6 teraflops of GPU.” All Xbox One games will work on all Xbox One systems.

E3 2016 – Electronic Arts: Battlefield, Mass Effect, Star Wars, Titanfall

Electronic Arts held their pre-E3 E3 showcase earlier today. Below are several highlighted titles, including Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2, with new trailers and screenshots. A Star Wars overview video also provides a quick look at several unnamed projects. For those wanting to check out the entire presentation, the studio has put up a stream of the event in its entirety, which clocks in at over four hours long.

gamescom – Ubisoft: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Anno 2205, more

Ubisoft released a host of new media for several of their key upcoming titles. Below are new trailers and screenshots for Anno 2205, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, The Crew Wild Run, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. The Assassin’s Creed Syndicate media highlights the game’s two assassins, twins Jacob and Evie Frye, as they attempt to liberate Industrial Revolution-era London. Wild Run is the new expansion for The Crew, which will add customizable dragsters, drift cars, monster trucks, and motorcycles. In addition, to the new rides, the updated graphics and new weather system is also on display. The Spectator Cam was also revealed for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, which will allow an extra player to watch the action; PC gamers will have it launch, while PS4 and Xbox One owners will need to wait until early 2016. It and more are highlighted in the screens and trailer, but to see it in action, gamers can check out Ubisoft’s Twitch channel on August 8 from 4-8 p.m. (CET) for a live 5 vs 5 match on PC.

gamescom – Microsoft: Halo Wars 2, Killer Instinct S3, DVR, more

Microsoft made a number of announcements at this year’s gamescom. A few of which include the reveal of Halo Wars 2 for Xbox One and Windows 10, currently in development at Creative Assembly, Killer Instinct Season 3, and the addition of Shadow Complex to the backwards compatibility preview program. Speaking of which, Microsoft plans to have up to 100 Xbox 360 titles supported by the November launch. Other announcements included console bundles for Fifa 16 and Halo 5: Guardians, DVR for Over-the Air TV functionality for Xbox One (a subscription-free service, allowing for streaming and transferring between devices), two Halo 5 wireless controllers ($69.99 each), and a chatpad ($34.99). Deep Silver releases new Homefront: The Revolution screens, trailer

A new trailer has gone live for Homefront: The Revolution. The upcoming open-world shooter from Deep Silver Dambuster Studios switches things up from the original Homefront by eschewing a linear storyline in favor of greater freedom. Players will be able to tackle missions in any order as they lead a band of resistance fighters against an oppressive Korean corporation in Philadelphia. The group must rely on guerrilla tactics to further the cause, such as ambushes, improvised weaponry, and hit-and-run attacks. After inspiring others to join the cause in the single-player campaign, players can take the war online by linking up with others to form Resistance Cells.

E3 2015: Microsoft – Backwards compatibility, HoloLens, Gears 4

Microsoft had a lot to show this year, including an on-stage demonstration of HoloLens, details about the upcoming elite controller, gameplay footage from Gears of War 4, and the debut of the Steam Early Access-like program Xbox Game Preview. There was also the biggest surprise of the event, the reveal that backwards compatibility is coming to the Xbox One. The latter is opening the system up to not only a massive back catalog of titles but also some nice bonuses, such as a free copy of Fallout 3 with Fallout 4 and free copies of Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 with Rainbow Six Siege.

E3 2015: Bethesda – Fallout 4, Doom, Dishonored 2, and more

Bethesda had a number of surprises at their E3 presentation. Not only is Fallout 4 coming out this November, less than four months away, but a new Fallout game is also out for iOS. Additionally, Dishonored Definitive Edition and Dishonored 2 were revealed, and more was shown from their upcoming free-to-play PC arena action title BattleCry and id’s latest efforts on Doom.
