It’s time for players to break free of the virtual-world prison of Mobius with the launch of The Caligula Effect. As a student at Kishimai High School, players uncover a world that isn’t as it seems in a story penned by Persona 2 scribe Tadashi Satomi. As part of the Go-Home Club, they will join a group of fellow students in an effort to break free of the virtual world that has them trapped. Getting back to reality requires battling Digiheads, those students who have succumbed to the charms of the world’s master and are willing to defend her at all costs.
THQ Nordic is returning to the Darksiders with the recently (and officially) revealed Darksiders III. The hack-and-slasher is currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and is scheduled for release in 2018. Gunfire Games, a studio said to be home to many of the franchise’s creators, is heading up development. In the new installment, players will take on the role of Fury, a mage that is ranked as the most powerful of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as she seeks to destroy the Seven Deadly Sins. The whip-wielding magician will find herself following the Charred Council’s orders into an open-world, ravaged Earth that’s been overrun by nature.
Nier: Automata’s first round of downloadable content has gone live. The drop, titled 3C3C1D119440927, costs $13.99 and includes three colosseums along with extra sidequests. The latter bestow costume rewards, with several from Nier: Replicant (Revealing Outfit for 2B, Young Man’s Outfit for 9S and Destroyer Outfit for A2), records for the jukebox, equipment and cosmetic accessories (color-changing hairspray for 2B and A2), stat-boosting masks, and special bullets that alter the enemy’s appearance. To cap it off, the colosseum battles will pit players against Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda and PlatinumGames CEO Kenichi Sato.
An announcement trailer and batch of screenshots have gone live for Code Vein. The action role-playing game is set in a near future that has been devastated by a disease that has caused the collapse of mankind. A remaining group of Revenants known as Vein continue to fight, but their powers come at the expensive of their memories and a desire for blood. Players who succumb to their bloodlust will forsake what’s left of their humanity to become one of the Lost. The trailer features some of the weapon-based combat as well as a look at the companion system, which will allow players to team up with an AI partner.
