Square Enix has released some new details regarding the PS4 version of their MMO Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. First off, the game will be available in stores on April 14, the same day when “official service” begins. For those looking to preorder, beginning today, money can be put down on a Standard Edition or a Collector’s Edition, which will also include two in-game items (a Mog Cap and a Cait Sith Doll minion) and Early Access on April 11. The Collector’s Edition will be packed with an art book, a music CD, art cards, a themed security token, and a few exclusive in-game items. Additionally, existing players who have registered FFXIV Collector’s Edition, FFXIV: A Realm Reborn Collector’s Edition, or digitally upgraded will receive two new in-game items (Fat Chocobo Mount and Wind-up Moogle minion).
Square Enix is getting more involved in the community-driven development scene with a new pilot program, Square Enix Collective. Similar to Steam Early Access, players will vote on which game interests them most, but unlike Early Access, gamers are voting on concepts. Winners will be put up on Indiegogo for funding, with funded titles being supported by Square Enix throughout development and assistance with distribution on digital outlets at release. According to Collective project lead Phil Elliott, “It’s up to the teams how much or little help they want from Square Enix and it’s our opportunity to help some fantastic games become a reality and uncover the development stars of the future.”
