Konami has revealed more about their Voltron-esque plans for Metal Gear Solid V. The full release will actually be comprised of two separate titles, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes, announced for a spring 2014 release, will function as a prologue to The Phantom Pain. In addition to setting the narrative tone and pace, Ground Zeroes is also being used as an introductory tool to prepare gamers for the new mechanics introduced in the V line, with missions “designed to ease players into the new control and gameplay advances that will be an integral part” of The Phantom Pain.
After players break into a Cuban prison camp as Big Boss in Ground Zeroes, they will then continue the story in The Phantom Pain. The latter will expand the game world even more, with a focus on stealth in an open world that is filled with the kind of bizarre characters that make up the Metal Gear universe.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be available in spring 2014 for 360 and PS3, for $29.99 physical and $19.99 digital, and digitally for PS4 and Xbox One for $29.99. The Phantom Pain will launch later for 360, PS3, PS4, and Xbox One.
