PlayStation 3 owners looking for an early dose of pain will be able to get their fix on October 5 when the Closed Beta test launches for Dark Souls II on PSN. Publisher Namco Bandai has announced that, starting September 5, eager adventurers can find out more info about the beta and registration process at the official Facebook page. The beta will feature one of the tougher areas of the game, as well as new enemies and traps.
Sony’s publisher-specific upgrade promotion we mentioned yesterday, as part of a plan to ease the transition to PS4 by allowing PS3 owners to purchase digital versions of PS4 titles for a discounted price, has been detailed a bit more by Activision. The publisher announced today that gamers who purchase the PS3 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts will be able to upgrade to the PS4 version for $10 for a limited time. However, they also announced that they have struck a deal with Amazon and GameStop to allow Xbox 360 owners the same opportunity, who will now be able to upgrade to the Xbox One version for $10. There are also plans to allow for Season Pass Content and in-game progress to be transferred over at no charge for a limited time.
Flashback, an updated HD version of the 1992 side-scrolling action-adventure title, is now available for 360. PC and PS3 gamers will be able to play it later this fall, but as of today, 360 owners can download the revamped release for 800 MS Points as part of XBLA’s Summer of Arcade. Many members of the original team, now with VectorCell, the studio behind the update, had a hand in updating the cinematic sci-fi adventure. As a bonus, the original game is being bundled with the re-imagined version. Be prepared for some brutal times as Conrad battles alien Morphs to save humanity.
Blizzard had bad news for Gamescom attendees: defeating Diablo has only made things worse. After the Lord of Terror was felled, a new evil was born, and players will have to venture forth to face it in the upcoming Diablo III expansion Reaper of Souls. The Archangel of Wisdom, Malthael, has returned as the Angel of Death and taken possession of the essence of the Prime Evil, the Black Soulstone. Players must defeat Malthael and retrieve the stone as one of the original classes or as the new Crusader. The incorruptible brawlers don heavy armor, wield heavy weapons, and have access to battle magic to weaken enemies and enhance friends.
