As mentioned last week, Ubisoft has released new details about the upcoming sequel to Assassin’s Creed 3, Black Flag. The next installment has been in development for around two years, with efforts headed by Ubisoft Montreal and six other Ubi studios in support, and will be available for 360, PC, PS3, PS4, and Wii U, as well as “other next generation consoles” (i.e. Xbox Square, or whatever it’ll be called). The game will be available for the current slate of systems—360, PS3, and Wii U—this fall, on October 29.
Set in the early years of the 18th Century, the new storyline will follow British adventurer Edward Kenway, privateer turned pirate, as he battles the Templars throughout the West Indies. Other famous pirates of the age, including Blackbeard and Charles Vane, will also play a role. Combat will once again include stealth and action elements using era-appropriate weaponry, and more than 50 navigable locations will be open for exploring.
A bonus was also announced for the Sony line, with PlayStation 3 and 4 owners receiving 60 minutes of extra gameplay through a PSN download after launch.
GameStop is also offering a pre-order bonus for all systems. Gamers who put their cash down early will receive a Limited Edition poster featuring art by Todd McFarlane.
