Square Enix is harkening back to Final Fantasy’s 8- and 16-bit days today with the launch of Final Fantasy Dimensions for iOS. The first chapter in the new episodic saga, Prologue, is a free download that introduces players to the tale of the Avalonian Empire’s quest for peace and the world’s subsequent descent into darkness. Dimension features the return of job-based classes, as well as a sliding control pad and new work from composer Naoshi Mizuta.
Final Fantasy Dimensions is available for the entire Apple mobile family—iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch—on the App Store, with upcoming chapters running $2.99 (Chapter 1) and $9.99 (Chapters 2-4). All told, the full game will cost $28.99. Each chapter will not only further the storyline but also introduce new jobs and classes.
