Dr. Light will be receiving some help on the iOS front today with the launch of the Mega Man X App for iPhone and iPod touch. The revamped version includes updated graphics, difficulty options, rankings, 80 new challenges sprinkled throughout Story Mode, and Ranking Mode.

Trendy Entertainment is throwing down the holiday gauntlet with a new DLC pack for the Steam version of their tower defense- and action-RPG hybrid Dungeon Defenders. The Etherian Holiday Extravaganza pack includes four new holiday-themed skins, four new holiday-themed weapons, a new mission involving the precious delivery and protection of Christmas gifts, and a new boss battle.

The Kingdom Hearts series will continue next year with a new 3DS adventure, Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance]. The upcoming title will, in addition to furthering the cause of brackets around the world, offer new worlds and “never-before-seen gameplay elements.”



Star Wars: The Old Republic launches – guilds to arms!

Bum-bum-bumbum. That phonetically attempted tune can only mean one thing, padawans: Star Wars: The Old Republic is live. BioWare’s galaxy-spanning MMO has launched for the PC and is currently hosting innumerable adventures and adventurers. Set thousands of years before the films, players will side with the Galactic Republic or Sith Empire in one of sci-fi’s greatest wars. Eight character types are available (Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Smuggler, Trooper, Bounty Hunter, Imperial Agent, Sith Inquisitor, and Sith Warrior), and each has two subclasses that are further differentiated by their own skill trees. Each character also has their own storyline, complete with a fully voiced cast.

A new character trailer has been released for Final Fantasy XIII-2, the latest entry in Square Enix’s long-running series. The main takeaway from the trailer: be wary of a man who casually wears feathers.

Just Cause 2 hijacks PS Store with new Ultimate Edition

The plane-riding, enemy-grappling action shooter Just Cause 2 is now available as a new collection on the PS Store. Titled Just Cause 2: Ultimate Edition, the $29.99 download-only release includes the original game, both DLC packs, and eight additional in-game items. The standard edition is also available for $24.99.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s free Heroes & Heralds DLC is now available for the 360 and PS3. The new mode, playable on and offline, pits the Heroes and Heralds factions against one another as the heroes battle Galactus’ heralds to save Earth from annihilation. Fighters are customizable through the use of Ability cards, which affect the combatants’ stats and powers with enhancements ranging from speed boosts to invisibility.

Ubisoft kicks off new sale on Steam with 33% to 75% off

Ubisoft and Steam have teamed up to offer a discount on some of the studio’s biggest franchises, as well as on some of their best one-offs (might we recommend the excellent R.U.S.E.?). The limited-time sale knocks 33% off the standard price, while the 14-title Holiday Pack offers an even steeper discount of 75%. The sale is currently running and will end on January 2.

Remedy’s Alan Wake Live-exclusive spinoff, American Nightmare, will include a new arcade mode dubbed Fight till Dawn. The studio announced that the new mode will pit Wake against waves of enemies as he attempts to survive the night by tracking down safe havens and weapons to stave off chainsaw- and axe-wielding maniacs. Leaderboard support was also announced, allowing gamers to compare their survival efforts against fellow embattled novelists.
