At six years old, the Xbox 360 has outlasted its predecessor’s retail run and far surpassed it in sales. Microsoft sent along some figures for the week of Black Friday, and it seems as though the system is still finding a welcomed home in many gamers’ libraries. According to Microsoft, the system had “the biggest sales week in the history of Xbox” with over 960,000 consoles sold. Of those, 800,000 were sold within 24 hours. And the Kinect, as both standalone and part of a bundle, sold more than 750,000 units.
New and old owners alike can look forward to an impending dashboard update, set to go live on December 6, that will introduce a new line of entertainment apps. Microsoft is estimating that almost 40 TV and entertainment providers, such as HBO, will be available over Live by the end of the year.
