Naughty Dog enters trilogy territory today with the release of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception for the PS3. The latest installment of treasure-hunting everyman Nathan Drake’s ongoing journey sees him uncovering a historical conspiracy that links Sir Francis Drake, T.E. Lawrence, and the Atlantis of the Sands.
In addition to new graphical improvements, including realistic effects to replicate a windy, shifting desert, and stereoscopic 3D support, melee combat has also been improved. Drake can now engage in “brawl-style combat” with several enemies at once, using new combos and contextual attacks that take advantage of the environment. Multiplayer will now include the same cinematic sequences as single player, along with 11 maps, six modes, 10-player versus multiplayer, local and online three-player co-op with a unique story arc, custom loadouts, upgradeable boosters, weapon mods, and an emblem editor.
Uncharted 3 also includes integration with social networking sites Facebook and YouTube “to share timely, relevant in-game content and activity to a broader network of friends.” An improved cinema feature includes a new suite of editing tools to create highlight reels and upload them to both sides from within the game.
Every new copy of the game includes a one-time Online Pass for free access to online multiplayer. A new bundle has also launched for the game. The $299.99 pack includes a 320GB system, a copy of the game, and a free month of PlayStation Plus.
