Insomniac Games’ Resistance 3 is now available for the PS3. Set four years after Resistance 2, the third entry in the long-running series features an alternate 1950’s America that is occupied by the Chimera. Joseph Capelli returns, and as the last remaining Sentinel, it is up to him to must reverse the Chimar’s ongoing terraforming program. As the Earth slowly changes around him, Capelli strikes out in one last attempt to reverse mankind’s fortunes by trekking from his home in Oklahoma to meet up with scientist Dr. Fyodor Malikov in New York.
Players will be able to go through the single-player campaign solo or with a friend in the new co-op campaign that supports both online and local split screen. Progression-based multiplayer also returns, with 16 players tackling objectives around the globe and using their experience points to kit out their character. Soap Creative and Insomniac’s recently launched Global Resistance, a free-to-play online strategy game pitting humans against the Chimera, is also compatible with Resistance 3, with players earning multiplayer skins, in-game titles, and experience boosters for the shooter by taking over the world. The first round of DLC was also announced, the Survival DLC Pack, which will launch on October 4 for $3.99 and include the Invasion multiplayer mode, multiplayer Survival skin pack, and Resistance 3 Survival static XMB theme.
Note that Resistance 3 supports online activation passes, for “access to free online multi-player gameplay,” which will be free with all original purchases but will not be included with secondhand copies.
And of course, Resistance 3 supports all of the Sony hardware extras, including HD stereoscopic 3D, the Move motion controller, and the Move Sharp Shooter peripheral.
For those wanting to grab everything in one go, Sony is offering the Doomsday Edition for $149.99. Launching alongside the standard version, the premium release will include a copy of the game, PlayStation Move motion controller, PlayStation Move navigation controller, the PlayStation Eye camera, and a PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter.
