Batman: Arkham City goes 3D for consoles, PC

Warner Bros. has announced that the Dark Knight will be returning to gaming in a new dimension. The upcoming action-adventure Batman: Arkham City, set for release on October 18, will support both stereoscopic and anaglyphic 3D for the 360 and PS3, as well as Nvidia 3D Vision for PCs. Console gamers will be able to experience uncomfortably close fists with a 3D HDTV and active shutter glasses, while PC gamers can use GeForce-equipped desktop and notebook PCs as well as compatible 3DTVs. HDTV owners can play the game in anaglyphic 3D with “technology compatible with all high definition TV sets and visible to players wearing 3D glasses available for the video game.”

As a bonus, publisher D3Publisher has seen to ensure that everyone is up to speed by including a copy of the hundred-hour-plus White Knight Chronicles: International Edition, a remastered version of the original, on the same disc.

PlayStation 3 gets price drop and Infamous 2 bundle, Vita to embrace social networking

Sony has announced a price drop for the PS3 as well as a new PS3 bundle. Effectively immediately, all systems will be reduced by $50, bringing the 160 GB model down to $249 and the 320 GB Model down to $299. Sony also announced a new, limited-run 320 GB Infamous 2 Bundle that includes the system, a copy of the game, and a 30-day PlayStation Plus trial for the same price as a standalone system, $299.

Nordic Games acquires JoWooD and The Adventure Company

Nordic Games GmbH has acquired the “brands, products and selected subsidiaries” of both JoWooD and The Adventure Company. The companies will become publishing labels within Nordic Games GmbH, who plans on bringing back some of the studios’ more popular franchises, including Arcania, Painkiller, Neighbours From Hell, Panzer Elite, SpellForce, and The Guild.

Tropico 4 – 360 and PC release dates announced

El Presidente has officially been called back to service. The mustachioed one will be ready to guide (or torture) his people later this month when Tropico 4 launches for the PC on August 30 and in mid-September when it launches for the 360. Both versions will include 20 new missions, 10 new maps, 20 new buildings, six interactive natural disasters, ministers to elect and manipulate, and National Agendas. The PC version will also include social media integration via Facebook and Twitter.

Bastion launches on Steam, soundtrack available

Bastion, Supergiant Games’ latest action-RPG, has launched for PC on Steam. Recently released on Live Arcade, the DRM-free PC version is available for $14.99 and includes enhanced visuals and a tweaked, PC-centric control scheme. A demo has also launched on Steam, giving gamers access to the opening chapter. In addition, the DRM-free soundtrack can be picked up (as it is) with the full version through Steam for a 20% discount during release week; the soundtrack by itself is available for download at the official site for $10 or for streaming for free.
