Insomniac Games is set to spread its multiplatform wings with Overstrike. The EA-published four-player co-op action title will be released for the 360 and PS3, making this the studio’s first 360 release. Players will control a group of elite agents who have been tasked with taking down a nefarious organization that is trying to take over the world. The team, known as Overstrike 9, is made up of an ex-mercenary, a thief, a young scientist, and a veteran detective.
Another of Ubisoft’s long-running series will get a new entry next year, this time courtesy of Gearbox Software. Follow-up to 2008’s Hell’s Highway, Brothers in Arms Furious 4 will feature experimental weapons and a four-unit squad, each with their own specialty, that must take down some of the Third Reich’s most powerful (and strangest) weapons. Furious 4 will bring its unique brand of first-person shooter action to the 360, PC, and PS3 during the first half of 2012.
The Reaper’s assault on the galaxy continues next March when Mass Effect 3 launches for the 360 (with Kinect support), PC, and PS3. When gamers rejoin Commander Shepard on March 6, they will find Earth overrun and the denizens of the galaxy on the brink of defeat. As Shepard, players will lead the counterattack to save those that can be saved and sacrifice those that can’t, as some allies and planets must fall to the Reapers for others to continue the fight.
The freshly minted PlayStation Vita will be getting some of Capcom’s upcoming cross-franchise action with Street Fighter X Tekken. It was also announced that Cole MacGrath from Infamous will be a playable character in both the PS3 and Vita versions. Cole will join a lengthy roster of both Street Fighter and Tekken characters as they battle it out in a Street Fighter IV system adapted to suit both franchises as well as the tag team battle format. The Yoshinori Ono-produced brawler is scheduled to hit the PS3 in 2012; no release date was given for the portable version.
Sony held their press conference today and announced some new numbers for the PlayStation 3, upcoming titles, and an official name for the successor to the PlayStation Portable. The company also made a few additional announcements covering a wider range of their product line, including a new game-centric 3D television with a special two-player feature as well as new games and features for the PS Network.
The ever-popular Just Dance series will return this October with Just Dance 3 for the 360, PS3, and Wii. This is the first time the series will make its way onto a non-Wii platform, and it’s set to support both Kinect and Move. On October 11, body-rocking enthusiasts can look forward to shaking it to over 40 tracks spanning all genres, four-player choreographies, dynamic environments for the Wii, and a Shout Out! feature for the Kinect that lets players earn more points by singing along while dancing.
It’s time to head back out into the wilds. Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 3 is currently in development for the 360, PC, and PS3. Scheduled to ship in 2012, development is being spearheaded Ubisoft Montréal with assistance from both Ubisoft Shanghai and Massive Entertainment.
Battlefield 3 has officially been dated. Today at their pre-E3 press conference, EA announced that the DICE-developer shooter is set to hit store shelves on October 25. If the trailers have you biting at the bit, just hold steady because you don’t have too much longer as a multi-platform beta is set to launch this September. The Frostbite 2-powered follow-up to 2005’s Battlefield 2 will ship as two versions for the 360, PC, and PS3, a standard edition and a Limited Edition. Gamers wanting to put money down now on the LE will receive the Back to Karkand digital expansion, a pack of four Battlefield 2 maps remade in the Frostbite 2 engine, for free.
