The SOCOM saga continues today with the release of SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs. Developed by series creator Zipper Interactive, SOCOM 4 continues the franchise’s traditional third-person, squad-based approach with players battling it out online in 32-player combat and through a single-player campaign that spans Southeast Asia. In addition to 3D, the entire peripheral family is also supported, with the standard edition available alongside a deluxe $149.99 Full Deployment Edition that includes the Move motion controller and navigation controller, Eye camera, and Sharp Shooter add-on.

Other features include dynamic enemy AI, streamlined command interface, weapon scavenging, destructible cover, and an online five-player co-op campaign that includes six maps and two game modes with randomized scenarios. Multiplayer highlights include the return of Suppression as well as Classic SOCOM mode support for all maps and game types, which turns off health generation, respawn, the cover system, and increases movement speed.

SOCOM Pro is also introduced, which gives original owners (only valid with new copies) free downloadable content by linking their PS Network ID to a SOCOM account through an included voucher code. The content includes “custom game queues, weapons packs, and bi-weekly custom co-op challenges.” Players who pick up a used copy will have to pay $15 for Pro membership to gain access.
