PlayStation 2 surpasses 150 million units, nods, keeps on going

Today marks a new milestone for the PlayStation 2: Sony has announced that the system’s worldwide cumulative sales have reached 150 million units, as of January 31.

Launched in Japan on March 4, 2000, the PS2 has gone on to sell more than 1.52 billion units of software in its near 11-year run. Despite its age, the system’s popularity, affordability, and library have allowed it to maintain a strong presence around the world, “particularly in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America.” Over here, EA, Konami, THQ, and Warner Bros. are still releasing many of their popular sports and kid-friendly lines on the system.
