Yu Suzuki to be presented with Pioneer Award at 2011 GDCA

Sega’s celebrated designer Yu Suzuki (Out Run, Shenmue, Virtua Fighter), former head of AM2 and now serving as a Special Advisor, will be receiving the Pioneer Award at the 2011 Game Developers Choice Awards. The Pioneer Award is award to “those individuals who developed a breakthrough technology, game concept, or gameplay design at a crucial juncture in video game history.”

Father of the 3D fighter, modern quick-time(r) event, and my Saturn’s best days, Suzuki will be receiving his award on March 2 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. For those lucky enough to attend, he will also be giving a lecture during the main conference that morning at 10:30, touching on many of the titles he’s worked on throughout his illustrious career.*
