Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light set to launch on 360 this Wednesday

As Microsoft’s third annual Summer of Arcade program comes to a close, Crystal Dynamics sends word that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be available this Wednesday, August 18 on Live Arcade. PS3 and PC gamers are going to have to wait a bit longer as Guardian of the Light isn’t set to launch on the PS Network or Steam ($14.99 ea.) until September 28.

The 1,200 MS Point adventure features a lot of firsts for the franchise: this is Lara Croft’s first time starring in a download-only release, the first time her world shifts into an isometric perspective, and the first time players can raid tombs with another as Croft is joined by the Guardian of the Light Totec as an AI partner. Shortly after release, 360 owners will gain access to online co-op play and leaderboards as well, with more DLC slated for all versions coming later in the year, adding more combat encounters, puzzles, characters, and areas to explore.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light begins with Lara searching for an ancient artifact called the Mirror of Smoke. Upon reaching the mirror, she is ambushed by a mercenary army who steals the mirror and releases an ancient evil named Xolotl. Xolotl proceeds to wipe out the armed force and escape with the artifact. Luckily, the disturbance also awakens the Guardian of Light, Totec. In order to track down and stop Xolotl, Lara must join forces with Totec and ensure the world doesn’t plunge into an age of never-ending darkness.
