Call of Duty franchise surpasses 20 million

A fun factoid from Activision Blizzard today as the company announced that, for the quarter ended June 30, the Call of Duty franchise has sold over 20 million units to date.

The first in the series was launched in 2003 for the PC, using id’s id Tech 3 engine (the one behind Quake III). Since then, the series has appeared on the DS, GameCube, N-Gage, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Xbox, and Xbox 360. (Whew!) The newest in the franchise, Black Ops, is set to launch this November while the original is now available as a rerelease over Live Arcade and PS Store.
